Yesterday the House passed The Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act. This makes it illegal for an adult to transport a minor over state lines to get an abortion without the parents’ consent. Quoting the Planned Parenthood press release, “…in the real world, parental involvement is not always in a minor’s best interests, especially if she is pregnant as a result of rape or incest. In one study, nearly one-third of young women who chose not to tell their parents of their abortions did so because they feared physical violence or they were afraid of being forced to leave their homes.” CIANA also lacks an exemption that would allow minors to petition a judge for permission.
