Ya’ll Would Tell Me, Right?
Monday, June 23, 2008 at 11:05amOver the past few days, several people have exclaimed to me, “Your teeth are so white!” About twice a year, I rock some Crest White Strips to get the coffee and red wine stains out. My teeth respond really well to them, which is nice as it saves me money from having to get them professionally done. However, when people point it out to me, even though I know they’re being complimentary, I worry.

But of course. The other day, my mom said, “Your teeth are so white!” and my hand flew to my mouth, and my father just looked at me and said, “Ross.”

I love that line - “What’s the matter with YOU? You’ve got a blacklight and it’s 1999!”

What does Phoebe yell? Demon?

I had some stains on my teeth and my dentist SANDBLASTED them off! Yes, sandblasted, using baking soda in this sprayer-thing that blasted the stains away like a sandblaster strips paint. It felt weird but it looks as though I had a professional whitening, except it was part of my routine cleaning…no extra charge. A-freaking-mazing.
I tried the Crest White Strips awhile back and they made my gums so achingly sensitive, I had to stop. Did you have any problem with that?

Yes — it takes me double the time it says on the box. If the box says to do it two times a day, I do it only once. And sometimes I’ll just do it every other day. Otherwise I’ll lie awake at night feeling like my teeth are going to jump out of my mouth.

Michael, yes, “Demon!” Although it’s funnier if you imagine her yelling, “Matt Damon! Damon!”

GC, I’ve had that process done on my teeth a few times in the past and it is one of the more horrible dentist experiences in my opinion, just because I nearly gag/throw up from that intense salty taste. SO GROSS. That being said, the end result is pretty darn good. The last time I was at the dentist the newbie fresh-outta-college kid I got (my regular hygienist is now on mat leave) scaled/scraped my teeth to get the stains off and it worked really well, although it took twice the time, so not sure which process I like better.

How do the white strips work on making your teeth uniformly white? If you had one tooth that was more stained than the rest, does it eventually meet the other teeth in colour or it is, like, they all change by five shades or something, so the different-colored tooth is still noticeably different?
…Um. I swear my teeth aren’t hideous. I just have one that’s slightly different.

Oddrey, no idea. It depends why the tooth is a different color as well. The stuff only removes surface stains.
