While we’re at it, let’s outlaw that whole “Peace on Earth Good Will Toward Men” crap this holiday season. Commie propaganda is all that is.
Chips o'Toole on Monday, November 27, 2006 at 9:10 am
it will actually be interesting to see how the Idiot-in-chief and right wing cronies come down on that one - “against peace, but pro xmas! I’m so conflicted, just like the liberated and non-civil-war-torn Iraq! Damn! I did it again!”

And you can forget about sleeping in heavenly peace.

Perhaps I’m beating a dead horse here, but I refuse to believe that the makers of Happy Feet and Michael J. Fox don’t have something to do with this all. Has anybody definitively proven that they aren’t living in Lisa Jensen’s house and forcing her to hang liberal propaganda on her house. It’s not going to be so funny when Ms. Jensen puts up her “Gay Men Kissing” wreath.

Naked Gay Boys Kissing Penguins?

It’s interesting that there’s a certain percentage of the population that always seems to see Jesus in toast and Satan in peace wreaths. I’m starting to wonder if that damnation stick those Judgey McJudgersons are always waving around has some sort of hallucinogenic substance in the finish coat or something.

Those jerks are probably going to run into a little First Amendment problem if they try & enforce those fines. I bet they hate freedom, too.
freakgirl on Monday, November 27, 2006 at 12:04 pm
I can almost see their point; it would piss me off tremendously if my neighbor put up a GOD BLESS AMERICA AND SUPPORT OUR TROOPS I HEART BABY JESUS wreath. However, it’s within their right to do it, I suppose.
My concern lies in the fact that people are “offended” by a peace sign and are making it about the war, even though the peace sign has been symbolic of the holidays since forever.
And THIS statement is such bullshit: “Somebody could put up signs that say drop bombs on Iraq. If you let one go up you have to let them all go up,” he said in a telephone interview Sunday.
Because a sign calling for murdering Iraqis and a symbol of peace are EXACTLY THE SAME.
GeekBoy on Monday, November 27, 2006 at 1:07 pm
Yeah, I guess what I’m pissed off about — as you pointed out Freakgirl — is that “peace” has traditionally been a staple concept for the winter holidays; and these people need to keep their smelly pro-war agenda hands off of that.
Whatever Jensen’s politics, the wreath itself is not explicitly anti-Bush or anti-Iraq War. It’s just two very basic symbols efficiently merged. Anything else exists between the lines, and has to be inserted by the viewer. Good luck doing that with a sign that says “drop bombs on Iraq”.
And you know, how dare people wish for peace during wartime anyway, whether or not it’s the holidays. To me, it’s pretty sad if the residents of that development with “children serving in Iraq” aren’t wishing for peace themselves.
By the way, here’s a classic story of British & German soldiers in WWI managing a temporary Christmas truce …

Seriously. How is wishing for peace during the holidays an anti-war statement? Are there people out there actively wishing for war? Besides Bush/Cheney.

Alll I have to say is…WHAT?!
ali on Monday, November 27, 2006 at 2:33 pm
all *i* have to say is - i think a $25 fine is in order, simply b/c it’s ugly…hahahaha
but umm…peace? jesus christ - PEACE is OFFENSIVE? send them to iraq and then see how offensive they find peace…
Jen in OH! on Monday, November 27, 2006 at 2:34 pm
Well, you know the traditional meaning of Christmas has always been all about the killing. We all know the stories about Christ’s holy collection of ninja throwing stars, right?
I take the complexities of the points re: balancing the right to freedom of expression on one’s private property along with a homeowners’ association’s responsibility to limit signage to prohibit a particularly obnoxious local from selling exterior wall space to Marlboro or whatever, but I really do think that once we’re talking about “satanic peace wreaths”, reason has long since left the meeting.
freakgirl on Monday, November 27, 2006 at 2:55 pm
Indeed.
yeti on Monday, November 27, 2006 at 3:27 pm
Isn’t PEACE and included objective of the present war in Iraq? Wouldn’t achieving said PEACE bring all those neighbors offspring home, (’cept the ones that have to guard the oil wells and pipelines) mission accomplished?
I’m so confused and I also have to return all my UNICEF Christmas cards now, as they all include that pesky liberal peace dove on em!

The Spirit of Giving
Do you remember the lady in Colorado that put up a wreath in the shape of a peace sign and the homeowner’s association tried to make her take it down and fined her $25 a day? It made the news…
