Where Have All The Tampons Gone?

Do any of you out there use o.b. tampons? Have you noticed that they’ve gone missing? I’ve been to three or four different stores and they are GONE. I heard they are being discontinued for a while due to “production issues.” WHAT THE EFF? I’ve used them for more than twenty years. I hate plastic applicators and I don’t really like Tampax. I’m not really wanting to go the Diva Cup route…anyone have any suggestions? I heard that o.b. ultras in the 40-ct box are going for $40 on eBay. This is like that Seinfeld episode when they discontinue the sponge!

One of the Jezebel writers has been going on about this. So bizarre for them to be gone. The original earth friendly option!

Exactly! Grrrr.

I’m a Diva Cup girl myself – LOVE IT! Changed my life, for real.
As Kandis said, though – Jezebel wrote about this and even wrote o.b. http://jezebel.com/5681837/blo.....scontinued

I’m able to find them at most places near my house. Maybe Florida just has a bigger stockpile due to the average age of an adult female being beyond the age of menopause. Another reason for you to move to Florida, Freakgirl!

eep, this better not spread to Canada land!

I use organic tampons that are essentially the same (no applicator), but without all the toxic bleach.

I’ve used them before; I can only find them thru drugstore.com. I will probably go back to them, though. I wish they came in different sizes.

Mrs. O’Toole uses them, and I was asked a few weeks ago to get her some. I went to 5 stores to try to find them, eventually did, but she thought I was nuts that I couldn’t find them.

Now she knows!

Way out here in the wild west (aka northern California), I am having the same problem — no ob tampons at any of the stores where I usually buy them. I suddenly feel vulnerable — it’s like a taste of a future where the products I rely on and take for granted may suddenly and inexplicably become scarce…I’ve even tried ordering them online, but they are always “temporarily unavailable.” What gives?

From what I’ve read online, they’ve been having trouble with their manufacturing process so have temporarily halted production.
Weird. If Tampax were smart, they’d come up with an applicator-less tampon pronto.

I thought I was in a feminist conspiracy nightmare! I too am in northern california. Went to three stores and nada o.b.!! I am concerned. I found your blog by typing “where have all the ob tampons gone?” I am glad it’s not just me. I hate to say it but I feel like there is an anti-labia contact ploy abound. What could go wrong in tampon production? Especially one that doesn’t use plastic! I am sad and had to buy “instead” which means I will be throwing away just as much plastic (or is it rubber?) than an applicator.

Is “Instead” of one those cups? I’m not ready to go that route quite yet.
