Weekend Wrapup

Monday, June 16, 2008 at 08:19am

So, how was your Father’s Day weekend? Ours was a whirlwind of socializing — put it this way, don’t bother trying to buy any wine this week because I drank it all. As usual, our weekend revolved around food. Just the way I like it.

Friday evening Liz and Lisa came over to watch the BSG finale. I attempted to make pizza dough; something I’ve done several times with no problem. I guess this just wasn’t my weekend for baking, because FAIL. The geekboy picked some up from the local pizzeria instead and all was well. On Saturday, we met up with my friend, her husband and their two kids and went to see Kung Fu Panda, where we shared more pizza, and even some beers for the grownups. After that, we came back to our place and chased the kids around in the yard until they were so sweaty and (later on) ice-cream covered that I sprayed them down with a hose.

Yesterday, we met up with my family for Thai food and cupcakes. The cupcakes continued the “just not my weekend” theme when the nutella frosting I attempted basically curdled in the mixer. Another failed attempt later, I just slapped plain nutella on top of each cupcake and called it a day. They were gooey and yummy, though. I’d show you some photos, but I left my camera at my parents’ house. D’oh. We hooked up my dad with a kitchen gadget, some spice mixes, and a new pair of kicks for the beach.

We also played this game — Rock & Roll Triviologies — which was fun, but my GOD it took forever, and we ended up quitting because we all wanted to go home and go to bed. I do look forward to playing it again, though. Some of the questions were really tough!

    Oh, what a fun weekend!

Friday night I started organizing my daughter’s toys and her room which was actually fun b/c we found a bunch of toys and jewelry she had that we completely forgot about so, it was almost like having new toys!

Saturday we went to another Strawberry Festival and ate some delicious, local strawberries and bought a beautiful, handmade dress for my daughter. Went to my parents to celebrate their 45th anniversary/dad’s day. My 1.5 year old boy was like a bull in a china shop knocking over lamps, fans, glasses of water, etc. But, grandparents were glad to see the babies.

Sunday, we made breakfast in bed for Joe (chocolatey chocolate chip pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee), gave him some clothes and promised we’d go to a Phillies game later this summer. Did some gardening and got Italian takeout for dinner. Later walked up into town to the wine bar and had some dessert there. Watched “When We Left Earth”. Bed and now at work.

Since the geekboy and I don’t have kids, we’ll never get the breakfast in bed thing. Someday I’ll have to try and surprise him myself. Which will be hard, though, as he always wakes up before I do.

Friday night I went to see SATC with my sister and a friend, and then another friend met us for a late dinner. We sat at an outside table (it was a gorgeous night) and laughed our asses off until about 1 am.

The rest of the weekend was taken up with kid stuff, culminating in Ollie collapsing with fever on the couch. I put them to bed early and then ordered myself sushi for dinner and watched some of the Tony Awards. (Michael, I thought of you during the “Gypsy” act!)

I did breakfast in bed for Mother’s day when I was really young. I made her a menu and everything, but strongly encouraged her to order the “Juice and Toast”, because that’s all I could actually make at the time. #

    This weekend I watched thundershowers.

Well, I was SCREAMING at the tv, Susie. I was watching it on a 20 minute delay, as is my wont, and the flipping weather dude cut in to talk about the approaching storm. You know, because the little storm logo in the upper corner and the crawl at the bottom weren’t enough. You DO NOT pre-empt Lupone, moron. I could have killed him.

It was a fun show, otherwise. Now I really need to see South Pacific.

Oh, and Raul Esparza with longer hair……nom nom nom nom.

Michael, one of Emilie’s old friends from her high school show choir is in South Pacific. We saw her perform on Letterman a couple weeks ago. Pretty neat!

Raul Esparza is just so pretty.

Michael, did you see the Xanadu performance? That horse! Remember how hard Lisa was laughing?

I had my first ever Father’s Day! Wooooo!

Junior bought me lots of outfits for himself, the self centered little drooly clothes horse. Doesn’t he know I want a Mac?

Chips, congratulations on your first Father’s Day! I guess Junior couldn’t wrangle the car keys to get to the Apple store.

On Friday, I went to my sister’s house for a nice little BBQ which was ruined by horrible, horrible storms. However, I got to regale my niece will tales of the Jonas brothers, which gave her the (mistaken) impression that I am cool. (I feel so bad for my sister - she can’t wait until her daughter outgrows her boy band phase.)

Saturday, I got together with some of my girl friends who I hadn’t seen in months, including my friend Kait who has been in Ireland for two years. She told us of her new boyfriend, who is the son of a prominent ham mogul in Ireland, which prompted many, many ham jokes all day. We told her it was too bad she wasn’t heir to a cheese or mustard empire.

Sunday, I slept until noon, made some cookie, and lay on my couch watching television. It was lovely.

Oh, and just in case someone thinks I’m a heartless bastard for not doing anything for father’s day - my family is celebrating father’s day NEXT weekend, since it’s also my grandfather’s 87th birthday. Still trying to figure out what to get him.

Chuck, show choir represents! We should go. A long weekend…a musical every night….Hell’s Kitchen after…..sounds perfect, right?

Freakgirl, how could I forget? Although, with you two, I remember Xanadu being a 90 minute blur of cracking up, starting before we even got in the theater and ending with waving glowsticks. Also perfect, right?

  14. Susie on Monday, June 16, 2008 at 1:42 pm

Michael, my sister and I just got our tickets for South Pacific. CANNOT. WAIT. My mom just sent me an email with offers for all kinds of discounted theater tickets: Xanadu, August: Osage County, Young Frankenstein, A Catered Affair, The 39 Steps, Top Women (which I’m actually seeing next month), Thurgood, and Legally Blonde. HOW TO CHOOSE?!

  15. Susie on Monday, June 16, 2008 at 1:43 pm

I just realized that probably should have been put in an email. I’m guessing no one else cares about this. Sorry…

  16. freakgirl on Monday, June 16, 2008 at 1:56 pm

Michael, it WAS perfect! Let’s do it again.

  17. chuck on Monday, June 16, 2008 at 2:21 pm

Sounds perfect, Michael. Maybe we could round out the night with blow joys from the trannies in Alphabet City.

  18. freakgirl on Monday, June 16, 2008 at 2:29 pm

“blow joys” — I love you.

  19. Michael on Monday, June 16, 2008 at 4:11 pm

I could sure use some blowjoy right now, or does that go without saying?

  20. GeekBoy on Monday, June 16, 2008 at 4:24 pm

Chuck: Never afraid to take it one step too far.

Michael: Never afraid to take it one more step beyond that.
