Weekend Wrapup
Monday, February 18, 2008 at 10:52amHow was your weekend? We enjoyed ourselves, as usual. Friday night we had dinner with some friends that we haven’t seen in a while. They LOVED the cakes and wanted to know where I bought them, which was flattering. On Saturday, Susie and her family came over for dinner.
I made a huge lasagna, which came out great, even though I didn’t drain the ricotta enough and ended up having to siphon out water so it wouldn’t spill over. It was still delicioso. Susie brought me a ton of snacks from the japanese market. Some of them are a mystery, but I will be tasting them all.
After dinner, I surprised the kids with some pastry bags, frosting, candy and naked heart cupcakes. They were so excited and made several sugar-coated masterpieces, which we quickly scarfed down.
After that, the kids retired upstairs to play videogames, we adults chatted over wine and coffee and, before we knew it, it was 10:00pm and Susie’s daughter began to fall apart. Susie and Al found out later that she was running a 102° temperature, the poor thing.
Yesterday, the geekboy and I went to the movies. I wanted to see Definitely, Maybe because I’m a dork and I love Ryan Reynolds. It was good. Not great, but not bad. Afterwards, we did some shopping (oh, Williams-Sonoma, how I adore you) and stopped in to eat at Big Fish Bistro, where we had a waiter who spoke so softly and was so creepy that I’m pretty sure he spends his evenings stashing body parts in a freezer.
Today I plan to meet Shannon and our friend Mary (visiting from London!) for lunch at a local Thai place. Yay! And later tonight, I am hoping to start a project from this book with some of the yarn Maggie gave me during her last visit. You guys, they have a pattern to knit CUPCAKES.

Great weekend. Went to a killer show on Friday night - Black Mountain. Saturday was spent working on the house and going to my nephew’s basketball game. So cute. Sunday was more house work - painting dining room, which turned out gorgeous. Then we watched Hot Fuzz - so awesome.
FG - next time you’re at W&S - I HIGHLY recommend that you pick up a spoonula - best kitchen implement EVAH!

I was going to see Definitely, Maybe this weekend, but didn’t get a chance. Glad to hear it’s decent, I too love Mr. Reynolds. I saw The Jane Austen Book Club on dvd - it was excellent, I watched it twice before sending it back. Highly recommended.
Also, I kinda bought a new car on Saturday. I haven’t quite stopped hyperventilating over it yet.
Kimberly on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 11:34 am
Oooh Maddie, I want to kinda buy a new car so I’ll just live through you right now. What did we buy?
I spent the weekend shopping without my kiddo on Saturday and it was wonderful - she hates shopping. Then yesterday the kiddo declared we should have a PJ day and who am I to argue.
I’m on my last day of work for this job today and start a new one tomorrow. I won’t get to vist FG during the day because I’ll be out and about more often but I’ll try to survive.

Knitting cupcakes? I need more info!
maddie on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 11:48 am
We
bought a 2008 Scion xD, cherry red. It is the most adorable car, hatchback, really low gas mileage, kick-ass stereo, I am so happy with it.
Good luck with the new job, Kimberly!

I’m leaving the country for four months in three months. I spent the weekend beginning the purge of all my crap. I had boxes that I had moved from house to house that I hadn’t ever opened, and clothes that I remember buying in high school. Yeah, seven bags to the goodwill, 9 bags of trash, and a mountain of recycling. Today I hurt, lots.

Oh, I also began to instal Vista on my home system, lets just say it’s still a work in progress. Frustrating.

Make that 103°. She’s fairly miserable, although Motrin and season 2 of The Brady Bunch have done wonders for her mood. Fortunately, none of us seems to be showing signs of her plague.
As always, we couldn’t have had more fun at Chez FreakGeek. Yesterday I took the kids on a Freakgirl Sweet Treat tour via Flickr, and they were beyond impressed. FG, you are officially a rock star in our apartment.
freakgirl on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Aw, poor Maddie. Glad she is in a better mood and none of you have caught the plague.
And it’s always nice to win the respect of the kids!

Jay and I hosted the first inaugural Family Day Sunday Brunch at our house with our true family of friends - yum! Today is Ontario’s first ever Family Day so Jay and I are still in our PJs at home, though I may go to the gym so I don’t feel blubby yuck by tomorrow. Last night we also met our friends Brock and Chantelle’s new 3-day old baby boy, Reed. Very scrunchy and cute. After we came home we watched Micheal Haneke’s original Funny Games and after seeing a few of his films over the last couple of years I declared that one to be my last. Very well made but just so uncomfortable to watch!
Last but not least I am happy to say that the storm they had predicted to happen yesterday or today, didn’t - YAY!

Heh, maddie, Susie’s daughter is named Maddie!
(and congrats on the new car!)

And, thanks!

I’ve been sick for what seems like weeks and weeks, so when I finally felt OK this weekend, I went grocery shopping and then, randomly, also bought a DS Lite. It was so pretty in cobalt blue, and also electronic-y. I then proceeded to spend hours with that stupid Brain Age game. When I wasn’t doing that, I was re-watching the first season of 30 Rock and becoming re-obsessed with the HAIR dude from “The Head and the Hair” episode. He’s gorgeous and he went to Yale and he taught in Teach for America and he’s 6′5″ (yow!) and he’s done Broadway and he’s married to Mariska freaking Hargitay. Need.
Maggie on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 2:20 pm
But Michael, what if he was your third cousin? :O
I am scared of The Head.
Michael on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 4:22 pm
Maybe it’s because the genetics would not really be an issue for us, or that I’m born and raised in the blonde/blue-eyed inbred epicenter of the rural Midwest, but either way, I wouldn’t care even if he was my first cousin. Ick?
Machts nicht, as I’m totally a HEAD.
freakgirl on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 4:43 pm
Chuck, what is a spoonula?
Soosan on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 6:00 pm
I just got back from the US of A!
My gal pals and I went to Hamburg overnight and then did some shopping at ye olde Walden Galleria Mall. We had one of those weekends were we couldn’t stop laughing and giggling and it was just so much fun! I love having friends that make me laugh for no specific reason!
And now.. now I need a nap!

Michael, The Hair is on “Cashmere Mafia” this Wednesday evening. But me, I shall watch (for the first time) because of….:: trumpets blare:: Christine Ebersole! Ah yes, my pretty.
“… my season ended a long time ago. But no one took the party tent down….” 8->
Melonie on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Re snacks:Yan yan’s are sooo good and so are “Hello Pandas”. My kids LOVE them.
Michael on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at 9:09 am
The Hair AND Christine Ebersole? You’re gonna make me watch that.
Around the world
Is what I call my wall of special things.
Around the world with rose bouquets
I dried and tied on strings.
A silver mask from a masquerade
Around and round I twirled.
You tack them up so you can twirl around the world.
