Weekend Wrapup

Monday, February 11, 2008 at 08:14am

Today is my mom’s birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Mom!) and Wednesday is my brother’s birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Ken!). Saturday night we all went out to dinner to celebrate, and came back to my parents’ house for cake, wine and Scrabble. It’s become a tradition that I make my mom her birthday cake. This year I took a recipe from The Whimsical Bakehouse, and here it is:

happy birthday, mom

I don’t really like the way I smoothed (or didn’t smooth) the frosting, and I certainly suck at writing on a cake, but who cares, because look inside:

This is a Freckled Mocha Cake (with shaved chocolate pieces scattered through). Bailey’s Irish Creme mousse filling. Chocolate buttercream frosting. Do you love it? I love it.

    Happy FreakFam Birthdays!

And ftr, you do not suck at writing on a cake, at least not by comparison. The last time I attempted the task my cake wound up looking like a bathroom wall in an establishment full of three-fingered drunk dyslexics.

ha! I just can’t get the texture correct for writing and my hand gets shaky. I think I am going to start practicing doing stuff in chocolate…it’s easier.

Does anything say I LOVE YOU like Bailey’s Irish Creme mousse filling? Prolly not, but I need to find out.

    Happy birthday, y’all!

    Happy birthday to yous guys!

The cake is lovely! I actually love the texture of the frosting the way it is, and you’re cakewriting is pretty damn good! That said, I understand being hyper-critical of one’s own work…I’m the same way with my kntting and spinning. Even though people tell me it looks wonderful, I’m all, “NO IT SUCKS” rip rip rip start over.

Do it until you get it looking the way you want it. You’re the boss.

Hmm. I thought I already said Happy Birthday y’all! And mentioned that I’m drooling. I am also sleepy, so I might have pressed the wrong buttons. Totally missed the green one. Pfff.
