Vintage HBO
Monday, March 24, 2008 at 09:42amRemember back when we first got HBO in the 80s? And before every movie they played a little intro? Here’s a video of the making of that intro. Really supercool to see how they put it together, in the pre-CGI age.

I cannot believe how detailed this is! “In the old days you’d actually have to go and hand crank everything, but now with computers…” ha ha ha!
That’s astounding. All for a few seconds of promo before a show.

And then I’d watch Beastmaster followed by my 19th viewing of Arthur.

omg, Arthur! My favorite! I watched it over and over. Love.

Who didn’t love Arthur?! And Chris Cross!

Favorite line (as of now):
When Arthur accidently goes Linda’s neighbor and wakes them up.
Woman: MY HUSBAND HAS A GUN!
Arthur: Yes. And for all I know, he shot it while you screamed.

I was always partial to when his fiancee said something like, “here, take my hand,” and he replied, “But that would only leave you with one!”
Kills me every time.

What about “he’s taking the knife outta the cheese…and I don’t think he wants any cheese!”

the music in this “behind the scenes” really is something.

What, I have no idea, but it is something.

Alcoholism is funny.

Especially when it’s tiny and has a British accent.

My favorite is how dry Hobson’s responses to Arthur typically were.
Arthur: “Do you know what I’m going to do? I’m going to take a bath.”
Hobson: “I’ll alert the media.”
I find myself saying that whenever people tell me they’ll be using the bathroom.
Chuck on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 9:46 am
Hobson to Linda: “Steal something casual.”
Arthur on Susan: “She really is quite beautiful when the light hits her just right. Of course, you can’t depend on that light.”
Sad fact - the writer/director of Arthur died of a heart attack the year after it came out - it was the only movie he ever directed. Which is also why Arthur II sucked so bad.

“You must have hated that moose.”
Also, doesn’t he say something to Hobson about bathing being lonely for everyone but fish? Pardon me, I’m off to IMDB.
Chuck on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 10:06 am
Hobson: “Bathing is a lonely business.”
Arthur: “Except for fish. I think that fish must get awfully tired of seafood. What are your thoughts Hobson?”

I prefer “Arthur 2: On the Rocks.”
