I caught Vampire Weekend on SNL this weekend, and was completely charmed. They are now in rotation on the iPod. The lead singer totally reminds me of the kid who played Mannie in the movie Go.
More about the band here, and a video after the jump. Enjoy.
I usually don’t like “happy” music, but every time they come up on iTunes, I can’t help but smile. I’ve been lucky enough to see them live twice, and the energy they exude in person is pretty incredible, considering how toned-down they come across on TV and in interviews. Definitely something new and fresh in the world of indie pop; I don’t think they have a single song in a minor key on their EP. (They covered “Exit Music (for a Film)” for Stereogum; they were almost unrecognizable.)
I was completely convinced the lead singer of Vampire Weekend was also the kid from the freecreditreport.com commercials. I had to Google madly to find out I must be smoking crack.
I’m totally enamoured with them too. My boyfriend was singing their praises over a year ago and I finally decided to give them a shot. Can’t get enough. They’ve blown up faster than any indie band I’ve seen.
i actually watched this sunday afternoon and i had my eyes closed (it was nap time!). when they came on, i sat up, put my glasses on, cringed, said “what’s he doing with his eyes? HIS EYES. WHAT IS THAT??”, took my glasses back off and put my head under my pillow.
i think my boyfriend thought i was having a bad dream, but that guy…ugh!!
i wish i liked them. they sounded like fun, i totally love their name, but when i think of them, i see that guy’s eyes going crazy and i shudder…
hehehe on SNL, he kept looking extremely left and then extremely right so to me, his eyes looked white with flashes of black. in retrospect it’s actually quite funny to remember, but i was seriously half asleep. maybe i made it up…
sometimes i do that in my sleep. now that i watch the video here, that song is super catchy. but i wish i could find his eye trick for you!!
i have confirmed with my boyfriend that i did indeed sit up and go through the motions previously mentioned. he confirmed that yes i did all of that, but my eyes were closed the entire time. he left me alone b/c he thought it was creepy…
(i wish he would have recapped that event before i went and opened my mouth…

LP, I mean. And I checked again— all major keys.
Also, check out their KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic session.

I must honestly say that I have no idea what you’re talking about.

I saw him moving his eyes back and forth, but I didn’t have the violently negative reaction you did. Hee hee!

I didn’t register any wacky eye movement either haha.
I do happen to greatly enjoy the way the bass player dances around

Maybe he’s related to Susanna Hoffs? …
