I saw Willie Nelson and BB King play last night and it was AWESOME. Moment of the night - Jimmy Carter joined Willie onstage during Georgia on my Mind for the harmonica solo! So f-ing cool. He was a badass harp player too!

Went to an outdoor theatre festival and got washed away by a monsoon. And it is hot-hot-hot here and very humid, so I am beyond cranky.

Played Mexican Train Dominoes with friends on Friday night (I sound like such an old lady, but it’s so fun!), went to Ft. Myers to shop at this awesome shopping center, found tons of sale stuff that I had to have (can’t turn down clearance!) ate at one of my favorite restaurants (California Pizza Kitchen), went to see X-Files movie Sunday (SO GOOD) and then cleaned my house to prepare for my dad visiting from NJ at the end of the week. The weekend went by in a flash!

    In a word: AMAZING!

Not technically the weekend, but Thursday night I went to a Sketch Comedy show (Just for Laughs festival) hosted by Craig Robinson (Darryl on the office). He is hilarious! He would play the keyboards and chat up the audience between acts.

The acts themselves were also really truly spectacular!

maddie - We’re going to be down your way at the end of August. Perhaps we’ll meet for lunch or dinner one day?

Willie turns to B.B. and motions with his head, man…I got a bus outside lets fly this chicken coop and get Jimmy happy. Scratchin his neck and nodding his head B.B. replies…..

Also - what are Mexican Train Dominoes?

  10. Suz on Monday, July 28, 2008 at 1:42 pm

Maddie - I’m right there with you on the dominoes - I’ll happily wile away hours playing dominoes. That and Carcasonne (which makes me alternately an old lady and a 13 year old boy). I don’t know how to describe Mexican Train Dominoes except that its dominoes with little plastic trains. #

That would be fun to meet up while you’re here, if you have time!

Mexican Train is a super-addicting dominoes game, it has just the right amount of strategy without being annoying. How it works is a bit hard to explain, I’ll let wikipedia do it.

Here is a picture of it to better illustrate. I highly recommend it if you have a group of fun people to play with.

Wow, I’ve never seen that before. Maybe I’ll pick it up — our family loves board games. Especially if we can figure out a way to play for money.

On Saturday I went to Auschwitz. Needless to say my weekend was kind of a downer, but tomorrow we leave for Hungary so things should perk up.

I took my kids to where I was born on LI. Sophie got to see the house where I was a little kid, we took her to the old bakery for a black and white cake, and she got to swim off Fire Island (crazy huge waves!) On the way home we got stuck in the most hellish storm I have ever been in. Every overpass on the highway was crammed full of cars trying to get some shelter—I almost got stuck in a flash flood and we took shelter in a firehouse when the hail started. I got to see 4 direct hits to the Outerbridge Crossing as we went up the approach—someone in the left hand lane panicked and stopped, but my lane kept moving. I never get unnerved driving in bad weather, but this was other-worldly!

We went to the Balloon Festival Saturday, which was hot, but fun. Sunday we went to a picnic-party with the NJ Secular Humanists in this beautiful park near Morristown. A very active weekend!

    Shannon - SCARY!

GC - we saw the balloons doing their morning ascension on the way to the walkathon Saturday morning. It was so lovely. And I forgot my camera. Grrrr.
