This Story Made Me Cry

Remember Michael Vick and his dogfighting arrest, along with the revelation of dozens of dead, abused and injured dogs on his property? Today, one of those rescued dogs now spends his days providing therapy to cancer patients. This is why I donate my time to our animal shelter. Rescue animals — their resilience, the way their brains allow them to trust against all odds, and their ability to survive and adapt — inspire me in ways I’ll never really understand. Thank you to every shelter and group that took these animals in and gave them better lives.

That’s so cool. If I ever get another dog, I’ll definitely rescue some wuvable guy. Maybe a pit, like our hottie Landis has done.

But doesn’t Leo look like he’s saying, “I’m so happy to be cared for and helping people, but this clown collar? Seriously?”

    I know, right? But it’s a living.

Oh MAN! I wanna sweet pit rescue to come visit me when I’m on the needle.

Our dog is a rescue and unfortunately is a complete shit (you would think the 6+ years with us would have gotten her over the 2-odd years she spent elsewhere) but at least she hasn’t bitten the baby yet. Because that would be one quick trip to the vet, I hate to say.

Ironically, we adopted Cleo (our Boston Terror mix) from a shelter in Norfolk, VA, which is just south of where Vick got busted. She’s got serious issues…our theory is that she was taken from her mother too early and never got properly socialized.

Also, I hope Vick has to do, like, a MILLION hours of community service at an animal shelter once he gets out of prison.

Oh, brigita, I hope everything works out with both of your dogs. They are lucky to have you.

Heh, we only have the one (Cleo), but she does give us two dogs’ worth of headaches. Still, I don’t take commitments lightly and REFUSE to be That Couple that gets rid of their dog once the baby is born. Because she does have her good qualities…just none that anyone outside of the three of us ever sees.

    And thanks. #

Oh, duh, I thought you were talking about two different dogs. Well, I hope everything is good with Cleo and the baby!

I understand about nobody seeing Cleo’s good qualities. I have that problem with Meena.
