The Torontoist Cover Song Catalogue
The Torontoist has a piece about my favorite thing – cover songs. It’s a fun list, limited to recorded songs only, and many of them are on the mellow side, no matter what the original sounded like. A highlight is Dave Werner’s “Straight Up,” as well as The Postal Service’s “Against All Odds.” [via]

if you listen to only one of the selections, make it the cover of “Closer” which will make you laugh, feel very dirty, and really creeped out.
The “Somewhere over the Rainbow” is a good one. i recently found out that it is one of my mother’s favorites, but despite that, i still like it.
Of course, a classic that isn’t mentioned is the superlative “Hit Me baby One More Time” by Travis.

I love the Iron and Wine cover of Such Great Heights. I’m glad it was on the list.

I’ve always liked “Hit Me baby One More Time” by Fountains of Wayne.
I’m also loving the Straight Up cover – I must learn how to play it. Reminds me of the acoustic Hey Ya ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fS2PRP89eqM ) that was floating around a few months ago.

Take a listen to the Crispen Glover cover of Ben. It’s so creepy and sort of sounds like the guy from Herman’s Hermits.

I only got partway through and then I had to go hide under the bed.
