The Science of Sleep

Over the weekend, we watched Michel Gondry’s The Science of Sleep. I really liked it. Gael García Bernal was excellent; the dream scenes were amazing and whimsical. It was a strange and rather scary look into what I can only imagine is what schizophrenia feels like. Also, does anyone know where I can get a Disastrology calendar? Trailer after the jump.

My TiVo taped this for me and I deleted it without thinking…darn it. I’ll have to reschedule this one

The calendar may be available from Gondry himself “soon” …

I absolutely loved this film. The design of it astounds me. Gondry’s mind astounds me.

I really liked the design on the film; it was amazing. But the story kind of left me cold just because I thought the lead guy was kind of a jerk, and I had no sympathy for him, but had a lot of sympathy for Charlotte Gainsburg’s character and just wanted her to get the hell away from that guy.

I pitied Stephan…I felt he was mentally ill and I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to live your life never knowing if things were real. I had sympathy for Stephanie too, but at least she was blessed with the gift of sanity.

Or did I misunderstand the whole movie?

Nah, I probably did. I took all the fantasizing he did as completely willful, and indicative of his just not wanting to grow up, which is why when he acted like such a jerk to Stephanie, it really bugged me.

That’s certainly another way of looking at it. His mother sure babied him — he could be a dickweed because she babied him, or she could baby him because he’s sick.

Gael García Bernal (yum!) is in “Blindness” along with Julianne Moore (yum!). Hope it’s good.

Need to see “The Science of Sleep” now!

Speaking of Julianne Moore, she’s INCREDIBLE as Barbara Baekeland in “Savage Grace.” Really good movie, too

Bianca, it looks like you’re showing Gael your butt.

Which you might be happy to do. #

Michael - I’m looking forward to Blindness as well. The trailer looks good #
