The Kittens are Gone

Friday, November 16, 2007 at 02:51pm

I brought the kittens back to the shelter this afternoon. They go up for adoption tomorrow. I’m sure someone will snap them up immediately. I felt terrible, knowing they will have to spend the next day or two (hopefully that’s all) in a cage in a scary place. But they’ll be happy to get to a new home where they’re allowed to run around. I didn’t really say goodbye to them; just shoved them in the carrier and dropped them off at the shelter. Can’t get too attached. Just now, though, I started cleaning the bathroom where they’ve been living and I found part of Ashley’s favorite black mouse and I started to cry.

Stupid kittens. I won’t miss them at all.

You know … until I do.

I thought that was today. Why does doing something good have to feel bad at the end? Life!

    Shall I pour you something?

I can’t imagine. I think it’s so great that you do this. The world needs more Freakgirl and Geekboys.

My cats were in foster care too before I adopted them. They weren’t kittens, but they were just as hard for the foster family to let go of. I’m happy knowing my meowmers come pre-loved!

    You’re a good egg, FG.

Thanks, everyone. I’m really proud of how we did with these two. Most of the kittens we’ve had before always wanted to be held and cuddled. These two were tough nuts to crack, but by the time they left today, we had them purring just at the sight of us. I hope they get adopted together. I’m just going to pretend that they did. Maybe to a cute little girl who will dress them up in outfits (Ashley would totally let her do that).

Shall I pour you something? - Michael, you’re darling. Happily, Beth will be coming over in a few hours to do just that!

I’m always so impressed whenever you do this, it would break my heart. Good on ya. The Olsen twins looked fat and happy after getting some TLC at your place.

Letting them go is so tough…it sucks not to be able to explain to them what’s happening. You helped two surly little kittens become loving, adoptable purr-bots. ‘Twas a good deed you guys did, and it will help them find a loving home.
