The King of Kong

Thursday, February 07, 2008 at 11:49am

Donkey Kong Last night the geekboy and I watched The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters. If you haven’t heard of it, in a nutshell, it’s a documentary about two guys vying for the world’s highest Donkey Kong score.

Let me tell you, I spent the first 20 minutes of this movie making fun of every single person I saw on screen, and feeling superior to all of them. Then, something turned. I found myself on the edge of my seat, rooting for Steve and booing for Billy. We were suddenly watching a battle of Hero versus Villain; it was crazy.

Spoilers in the comments, fair warning.

The story doesn’t end at the credits.

I visited the movie’s website and found out that Billy has since beaten Steve’s score, live. Boooo.

You know, I went to Blockbuster a few weeks ago and asked if they had this movie, and the clerk looked at me like I had three heads. “A documentary about Donkey Kong? No, I don’t think so” is what I was told.
