Thanks, Everyone

Thanks to everyone for their kind words yesterday. The geekboy and I appreciate it. The funeral was small and quiet, and the service was, in a word, ridiculous. The minister stuttered and babbled his way through a nonsensical speech where he mispronounced the geekniece and geeknephew’s names, kept saying, “Am I right?” and then finally just read from the prayer card that was lying on the table in front of him. Rest in peace, Ginny.

Nothing like a minister to add some much needed, unintentional humor to a sad day. Same deal at my grandma’s funeral. I felt like I was in a Six Feet Under episode.

The last funeral I attended had a stuffed dog next to a picture of the deceased on a table up front. There were a lot of whispered questions about whether the dog was taxidermy (no) or fake (yes), which I had to answer (omg). And that was the most normal aspect of that whole situation by a ginormous long shot.

What is it about funerals that just bring out the hidden crazy in families?

Have any of you been to a Jehovah’s Witness service? Well, I enjoyed the first part of the service even though I don’t in any way agree with the theology. Sometimes it’s just nice to hear about what others believe. But then the recruitment began, and I thought it was in horrible taste that there would be RECRUITMENT right in the middle of a sermon supposedly honouring a great (I thought she was great) woman.

I bet they do the same thing at Scientology funerals. Ugh.
