STE-PHA-NIE!

How great is this story about Monday’s Green Day show? Sofa king great. What a lucky and talented chick. Yay, Stephanie!

  1. That’s pretty fucking amazing!

  2. Green Day pulled several kids up onto the stage at different times during Tuesday’s show. At one point, they had 3 kids up there (drums, bass, guitar) while Billie Joe sang (I forget the song.) Anyway, the kid who played bass was awesome, moving around the stage much like “Ste-pha-nie.” Mike Dirnt was so impressed that he gave him his bass guitar.

This is the second time I’ve seen them live, and I must say they are fantastic performers. They always put on a great show and they obviously love their fans.

  3. Yeah, the pulling fans onstage thing is a long-standing tradition, isn’t it? Didn’t they give away a guitar last time you saw them?

    Great buncha guys!

  4. Audience interaction is reasonably common.
Jill Sobule used to call folks on stage to sing Mott the Hoople’s “All the Young Dudes” with her.

Willy Porter sometimes invites folks to join him and shout out ideas (from which he constructs a song on the fly).

And Matt Nathanson has some crazy audience back-and-forth banter.

But holy cow…never before have I seen a fan/audience member so righteously stand up and perform. Yes.

  5. I’ve seen Jill ask people to hold her laptop for her so she could read the lyrics while she sang. She’s no stranger to audience interaction.

But Green Day is so, so, so much more huge than any of those people you mention. It’s just great to see a band play a stadium yet still keep it intimate. That’s a tough feat to pull off.

  6. So great. I was so nervous for her at first but she totally pulled it off. I’ve been to 5 Green Day performances this year now and it continues to amaze me how awesome they are to their fans. At Tuesday’s show I was in the pit up by the stage and was so tempted to try and get on stage and sing but chickened out at the last second haha. My mind would no doubt have gone completely blank as soon as I hit the stage.

  7. Or you’d be a YouTube star like Stephanie!
