There is a precedent for this. Zorro, the prototype for modern masked heroes, voluntarily unmasked at the end of Johnston McCulley’s original novel in 1919. (When the character proved popular, Zorro’s friends and enemies had to “forget” the unmasking in the subsequent stories)
Yeah, the beauty of a comic book universe is that the editors can always rig up an event to “reverse” this down the line if they regret the decision — a cosmic mind-wipe or something. Or have Peter Parker retire and let a new unknown person be Spider-Man. But it’s certainly an interesting development in the short-term. Daredevil got “outed” like this not too long ago as well … but I guess the mainstream press isn’t as interested in Daredevil as they are in Spidey.

Ha, before I read it, I thought the article was going to tell me that Spidey was gay.

After he unmasks he should bust out a rousing rendition of I Am What I Am from La Cage aux Folles.
PS Nice torso, P.P.

I’m still hoping that the Green Lantern outs himself. REALLY outs himself.
