Sleeping, Or Lack Of It

Wednesday, January 03, 2007 at 09:28am

Andrew posted today about having some sleeping troubles lately. Boy, can I relate. The past week or so has been a doozy. The geekboy has suddenly started snoring again, which sucks. I’m having trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. I’m plagued by bizarre dreams. Last night the geekboy slept in the guest bedroom, I went to bed at 9:30pm, took an Ambien, and I was still up four or five times during the night. The dreams are so odd.

The other night I dreamt that one of the companies I’m currently working for was terribly angry with me over the quality of my work. They told me I didn’t know how to spell. What? Me? One night I dreamt I pooped my pants. WTF? But the dream I keep having, over and over, and can’t remove from my head, is about making a cake. Just making a cake and decorating it. Making a cake and decorating it. Repeat until I die. Do you think if I just MAKE A CAKE it will end and I can get some sleep?

I don’t know what’s up with the cake dream, but it is better that the poop your pants dream.

I’ve also been having weird dreams lately. A few days ago I dreamed that I shed my skin. At first I was peeling dry skin from my fingers, and it was a little painful, but I didn’t stop. Then it just started coming off in a single sheet. I peeled back a whole finger worth of skin, then multiple fingers, then my whole hand. I had pink, fresh skin underneath. I continued peeling, it all still together in a single sheet. At the end, I had what looked like sheets of plastic (bubble wrap, actually, for some weird reason), and I felt totally refreshed and invigorated. I woke up and was so energized that I couldn’t go back to sleep, though I had only been sleeping for four hours.

Charlie, you scare me sometimes. Seriously, though, what an incredible dream, especially at the end of one year/beginning of another.

Has the geekboy tried Breathe-Right strips? They cured my snoring right quick.

And, if you think you have trouble sleeping, may I please direct you to our blog.

He does use those. They help a little bit. His snoring just about stopped when we moved in here, so I’m confused as to why it started again. Global warming, perhaps? #

Hugh, your site never fails to crack me up. You need to update, though.

I’ve tried the Breathe-Right strips and the sprays, with little success. And I just picked up their gargle stuff yesterday, but haven’t used it yet. I’m not optimistic.

My guess is that it’s either the dryness of the winter air or the fact that I’ve been eating badly during the holidays — seems like either my cholesterol level or a few extra pounds could swing the balance. So I’m going to try and get back to the better eating habits I had this fall, and get our humidifier working again, and maybe one or both of those will help.

Also, I suspect it might be an “If a tree snores in the woods, and nobody is awake to hear it, does it really snore?” scenario. In other words, snoring or no snoring, Freakgirl was sleeping better a couple months ago, and so probably noticed whatever snoring I was doing less.

Yeah, dry air gets me, too. Just park a cat next to each one of her ears.

Ok, I’ve had terrible sleeping patterns lately, too. I had an awesome dream last night that I wrote and produced a musical! Sadly, I cast Kirsten Dunst in the lead…proving that not all gay men could put on a great show.

    Kirsten Dunst? Oh, Charlie.

Hee! What was the musical about; do you remember?

I wish there were some machine that allowed us to transfer our dreams to dvd so we could share them with others.

    Spiderman — the Musical!

The Czar’s been using Flonase, and our humidifier’s on full tilt. Don’t know if it is a result of one or both, but his snoring is nearly non-existent now, even when he takes a whole Ambien. It’s bliss.

Our humidifier isn’t working right, but I bet it will help a lot once we get it fixed. I’ve been waking up every morning with a scratchy throat, and I know I’m not sick.

Rona, if that machine existed, I wouldn’t want to see any of Charlie B’s dreams. He has the most surreal and detailed dreams of anyone I know. But I’d love for you to see some of my better dreams involving Ben Affleck.

I ended up taking a pill last night, and who knew if I finally had that Christopher Eccleston/John Barrowman/David Tennant hot threesome + me dream I’ve been waiting for?, because I sure don’t remember. Instead I woke feeling drunk, or maybe punch drunk… *le sigh*

    Mmmm, a Dr. Who/Torchwood threesome. Ni-yice.

One of my favorite movies has downloading dreams as it’s premise - Until the End of the World

    http://imdb.com/title/tt0101458/

It’s primarily an English-language movie, BTW - don’t let the title fool you.

Look if anything if you have trouble sleeping you should try some natural remedies such as the tea and other stuff but also try home made carrot juice. WBR LeoP
