Hard to say. I saw them on Conan the other night (with Yo La Tengo, no less), and as much as I like Zooey Deschanel (but hate her sister), I thought her voice was a little irritating. (She’s also not much of a tambourine player.) Kinda reminded me of Minnie Driver’s musical forays; just not my thing, perhaps.

Yeah, that’s what I was wondering. Maybe I’ll just download that song.

Yes. Although I haven’t heard them live, so maybe they’re not as great sounding as I think. I’d also prefer a bit more of M. Ward. I do love him so.

I like it - it’s a good record. I’m a big M. Ward fan too, which helps. I don’t know - the whole thing seems pretty genuine to me.

Yes, Yes, Yes. If you go to the record companies site you can hear the whole thing. There version of “You really got a hold on me” is amazing. It is a pretty record. I think I will wait till the June 3rd release so I can get the 12 inch record with the album art. They are in town tonight (LA) but the show is sold out. Drag.

Jon, “You Really Got A Hold On Me” is what made me buy the album—such a great cover. For some reason it’s not a recommended track on any of the reviews I’ve read. Psshaw.

I agree- “You really got a hold on Me” is amazing- the song is one of my favorites ever. Its covered a lot but this one is really nice. Some of the newer material captures that sound from the early sixties- particularly the Ronnetts- there is even echoing that reminds me of the “wall of sound.” She does’t pose or dress the part so that won’t as noticed as Amy Winehouse’s attempt. I am really excited by them.

I thought I’d like it more than I do. I find her a bit shrill.
