Santa Paws
Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at 09:28amEvery year, the organization for which I volunteer (Second Chance for Animals) does a benefit for the shelter called “Santa Paws,” where you can get your pet’s picture taken with Santa. We will be volunteering this Saturday; if you’re local, please stop by. It is a HOOT. Here’s a flyer with all the info - please forward it along to anyone else you think might be interested.

Check your local Petsmart, if you have one. Many groups do something similar there during the holidays.

I was a Santa Paws Santa one year. It was crazy because there were torrential downpours and they set up a tent outside of the store. Most of the dogs were not particularly into having their pictures taken with Santa, but their owners were able to bribe them with treats. There was one very frightened and skittish pitbull that scared the bejesus out of me though.

Every year I’m shocked by the amount of people who think their pet is pleased to get their picture taken with a total stranger in an atmosphere of chaos. Good for you for doing it.
Most pets are very good, though, and I really enjoy meeting all the neighborhood animals, especially the many rescues from the shelter.
