Running Update
In case anybody was wondering how my “Couch to 5K” program was going, it’s not. I abandoned it about two weeks in. Running just isn’t for me. I knew that already, but I felt I should try one more time. However, I found myself dreading the workouts, and running was too painful on my body. I’m not the sort of person who will train themselves into an injury. Regularly overextending yourself is just as stupid as underextending yourself, in my opinion. Anyway, I’m on a treadmill walking regimen that I find I enjoy much, much more. It feels good and I improve my time a little bit every day. I just got two new books from the library and I’m looking forward to getting on the treadmill later and having a sweat and a read. Just thought you’d like an update.

I do daily cardio workouts, but never run – I hate to run. I steep incline walk on my treadmill and truely believe I get the same benefit as I would from running but without the wear and tear on my knees and ankles.

You gave it another shot and didn’t like it. Nobody NEEDS to run, but it’s always good to be sure it’s not for you. Done.
I’m at that point with yoga. I’ve done it in fits and starts, but can’t get myself to love it. I just feel awkward and tense. Maybe I should take a class.

I haven’t done yoga in a while. I really disliked the gym where we took classes, although I loved our instructor. But I just couldn’t deal with the gym owner anymore. I’m hoping our instructor finds another facility eventually. I should start doing my DVDs again, though.

I did the Bryan Kest DVD last night and half-way through I was cursing at his GD calm demeanor. Kind of not in the spirit of the practice.

Good for you! Knowing your limits and respecting your body’s preferences is important, imo.
Running’s not really for me, either. I ran xcountry in high school but just to train for soccer; I wasn’t a good runner, and bad knee injuries put both activities in the bin even before I became disabled.
Exercise is challenging now but I need a better program since my current workout regimen of playing Wii baseball and remembering to eat enough salad is not cutting it. Which yoga DVDs do you do? Are there any ones suitable for gimpy people that you would recommend?

Jen, I can’t find the exact DVD that I have to link to, but it’s made by Gaiam:

They have a big selection, so maybe there would be something that interests you.

I greatly dislike running too. It too hard on my knees, and no sports bra can contain the girls well enough for that kind of impact. A brisk walk however, that’s actually really fun!

Thanks!

I haven’t started mine yet. I’m too full from the hamburgers.

Mmmmmmmmm, hamburgers.
