It’s true, isn’t it…most music turns to shit when people get too happy. Shiny and happy, perhaps?

Speaking of which, has anyone heard the new B-52s?

You, get swept away, well I never! I think them being way too happy might be the biggest issue that band has right now.

As for REM — I like it but maybe because I so didn’t care for their last two albums. This one feels a bit like a return to form for me, plus they are doing such jubilant press and look so fucking HAPPY that I can’t help but get swept away in the hype. I make no apologies.

And if you trace it all back, REM is the sole reason we all met, isn’t it?

Don’t like to be a hater as I’m a big REM fan and I’m usually very forgiving with music. But this album garnered such hype that I couldn’t help but be disappointed. I just don’t get it.

I think that maybe our generation is being a little bit forgiving given the incredible history of this band and not entirely objective about the current music. I know it’s better than the recent efforts by the Athens boys, but is that really a valid comparison?

I’m not hankering for another Fables or even some newer adventures in Hi Fi, (but if I see them live, I know which songs I’d prefer to hear) I don’t even know what these guys could put out these days that would make them musically relevant in the 21st century.

I’ve got no answers and I’m def. not stuck in the past in terms of their music (or anybody else’s). Just too much good stuff out right now for me to regard this album as relevant.
