“You have kids that want to get high and that’s not what marijuana is for,” Robert Miko said. “It’s to medicate.”
Yeah, whatever, dude.

They always talk about how one joint is equivalent to X number of cigarettes, but how many people do you know that smoke and entire joint? Puff, Puff, Give is all I’m saying.

And there are other ways to ingest: eating it or using a vaporizer (I’ve never personally seen anyone do this, but I’ve heard of it, for the very reason of avoiding the harsh smoke side effects).
I wonder, too, what kind of study this was. Did the people who smoked joints also smoke cigarettes? When I - ALLEGEDLY! - smoke pot, I usually have a desire to chain smoke cigs, too. And when I - ALLEGEDLY! - smoked lots of pot in high school/early college, I really didn’t smoke much tobacco then and everyone I knew thought it was odd. I don’t know how many times I heard, “You’re the only [ALLEGED!] pot smoker I know who doesn’t smoke cigarettes.” Until I finally gave in and became addicted to cigs, too. Damn, pot IS a gateway drug!

From MeFi: “If there’s one thing potheads know how to do it’s using a vending machine.”
The people mentioned in the study smoked multiple joints per day for YEARS, and THEN they have that 5x “increased” risk. Ridic. At that point, I don’t think lung cancer is one’s greatest concern— you’re probably already fighting chronic pain, AIDS, leukemia, glaucoma, Dorito overdose, or something.

Allegedly, the alleged vaporisers don’t allegedly work all that allegedly well.
Or so I’ve heard.
Can I just hop on my wee soapbox a moment? My daughter graduated from the D.A.R.E. program at school the other day. They picked a winning final essay that was read aloud at the graduation. The thing that irked me was that in it, the student compared crystal meth to tobacco as equal evils. Now, I get that nicotine is addictive and not so good for you but…really? Cigarette smokers are the same as crystal meth addicts? Um, no.
My daughter told me that she was told even a single drink of alcohol was dangerous to adults and confirmed that alcohol, tobacco, and hard-core drugs were equated in the lectures. That’s bullshit and when these kids are old enough to realize it, they’re probably going to chuck all the good, accurate info on the dangers of meth, et al because, hey, if the stuff about alcohol and tobacco was exaggerated, why should they believe any of it?
If programs like D.A,.R.E. want to remain relevant and effective, they have got to start giving out more realistic info. (/hops off wee soapbox)

And the other thing is, if they’re taught that all these drugs are equally dangerous - some kids are going to try drugs no matter what. So we’re telling them, “Oh, crystal meth, weed, it’s all the same.” I’d rather have my kid smoking pot than on meth.
Ug.

I’d suggest that any one interested in vaporiZers do their own research. Most of the I-net info is a little spotty but if you are, ummm, chronic, look into the details and try to demo one.
For those who don’t know how they work, they heat up the herbs to a point below combustion but high enough that the oils (good stuff) is vaporized and then inhaled. I have a pretty long track record on the smoking path and I can tell you efficiency of using a vap is dramatic. My herbs last around 3 times as long. Better, ummmm, results too, The white vapor mist you inhale is not like smoke. It does not irriate the lungs or throat. I’ve given virgin lunged friends a try and they can’t even taste it. No coughs, no red throat. As the camel used to say, smoooooooth. Everyone has to make their own choices as to risk mitigation but given that you are using less material to acheive same or better results, that there is no smoke involved, no noticiable irritants, tells me you are most likely doing your lungs a favor. I’m sure it’s not healthy but compared to smoklng I’d be shocked if you are not cutting your risks dramatically. So if you are a closet smoker, I’d recommend getting a high quality vap with a ceramic heater covered by a borosilicate type glass (heating metal can’t be good for you)… cook your herbs low; these things have heat controls that will let you go too high and create smoke. Smoke = bad. Your herbs should stay green when you are done…extra bonus you can cook the left overs in brownies or cookies or cupcakes…yumm and fun!
As I said earlier, do your research… there is a bunch out there but be wary of the zealots….and be as safe as possible.
Personally, I’m never going back..there are too many positives with few negatives.

a) A friend of mine is a fifth grade teacher and she said it was really hard to get through DARE lesson plans. She had to stand up in front of her class and be like: “Marijuana is bad (snicker snicker)” “Don’t ever do it!” If you find some bring it to me IMMEDIATLY and I wil dispose of it properly.
b) They should park that vending machine right next to this one: http://moobella.com/
