PNC Bank Arts Center Bans Parking Lot Booze

Friday, August 17, 2007 at 02:14pm

Well, it finally happened. Two people died as a result of partying in the PNC Bank Arts Center parking lot, and now we can’t have a nice little tailgate party anymore. I knew it. And the two people who died were NOT underage. Sigh. Tragic and stupid. I want to say a hundred nasty things, but two people are dead and I just can’t bring myself to do it.

As far as I know, tailgating has never been legal in Canada…correct me if I’m wrong, though. We also don’t have those restaurants that don’t serve booze but allow you to bring your own in.

And people are already bitching about the ban. The hell?

I’m bitching about the ban. I’m sorry these people died and all, but why am I being punished?

Uhm, “Eighty-three people were arrested during the concert; 59 were charged with underage drinking. Other charges included distribution of drugs, lewd behavior and providing alcohol to a minor.” 83 arrests?! Maybe y’all do have a problem. That’s a lot of people.

charlie, that happens everywhere. No matter the venue you are going to have those who choose to behave badly and illegally. That is what we have police for. The majority should not be punished for the acts of a scant minority. PNC has no greater “problem” than any other venue.

Like I’ve said before, charlie, I’ve been going to this venue since I was 16 years old. Only over the past few years have things gotten so out of hand - and that Gwen Stefani show was the first time I’d ever seen it. I guess it’s a simple matter of giving people an inch and they’ll take a mile. It just really pisses me off when the actions of a bunch of boneheads who can’t control themselves ruin it for everybody else. When we go to shows there, we bring a picnic dinner, a couple bottles of wine, and we all have a glass or two. I fail to understand the fun in buying a ticket to a show and then spending the entire concert either unconscious, puking, or slowly overdosing. I seriously DO NOT UNDERSTAND PEOPLE.

As for the 83 arrests; my guess is that it’s due to finally having a security presence in the parking lot. People have always drank and drugged in the parking lot, but now they’re totally out of hand and getting caught. It happens everywhere, but I guess this year it’s our turn to fuck everything up. #

A couple of dead apples have to spoil the bunch, huh? That su-ucks. Kids in the US feel the need to drink/drug to excess probably because of the ridiculous repression in our “culture”. After the overreaction to Janet Jackson’s boob, I started hittin the sauce a little heavier, too. Legalize public nudity and I bet the alcoholism rate drops…it gives people a healthier distraction.

However, the car accident rate would probably skyrocket.
