Pirates of the Caribbean
Last night the geekboy and I caught Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End at the beer-and-pizza theater. [link has audio] I could watch Johnny Depp in eyeliner all day long. Having said that, this might be the weakest of the three, although it does have a much more satisfying ending than the second. I can’t help but think when I watch these movies that somebody dropped the shooting script and entire pages of the story were simply left out. Am I stupid?
Anyway. I’ve had this song stuck in my head since we got home last night, so please to enjoy: Suzanne Vega – Calypso.

So which was the PotC zenith then, 1 or 2? I’ve only seen the first one.

IMO, for special effects and hilarious Captain Jack hijinx, Number Two.

The first one I lvoe. i like the second one. Bill Nighy is great.
but this one…a mess. I agree, there was stuff missing or glossed over, then other things took way too long.
I have lots of opinions on this, but don’t want to spoil the plot prematurely.
Except i’ll say this – except for the tiny snadbar island towards the end, there was no evidence of it being filmed on location at all. Everything else was a set. Signapore? the frozen north? a bit far from the caribbean, i think.

Bill Nighy was a real standout in this last one, I thought. Considering he has to do most of his acting with his eyes.

That’s always been my favorite Suzanne Vega song…

It was a terrible movie, I thought. Except for Depp. He was great. I took my mom and aunt and I was glad I had whipped out the bills to pay because it was so bad I’d hate to have had either pay.

I wouldn’t say it was terrible. It wasn’t as good as the other two, and I only understood about 90% of the plot — which is bad — but it was a fun ride. And frankly, that’s all I really thought about the first two. Fun ride, neat special effects, some funny moments. If you’re expecting more than that, it’s probably not the movie to spend money on at the theater. Wait till cable.

Spiderman 3 kicked ass though, right?
But since when does James Franco have a smile made of butter?

I wanted a more coherent plot and all the romance was neither romantic nor sexy. And I mostly wanted to shake the characters. Except for the monkey!
