Pearl Jam
Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 07:56amYesterday Susie and her husband invited us to join them at the Pearl Jam show tonight at Madison Square Garden. Of course we said “yes,” I mean, it’s Pearl Jam. I haven’t seen them play live for about ten years. Oh, did I mention that we’ll be enjoying the concert in a private luxury box? How civilized! I can’t wait. Eddie Vedder, two times in one week. My sister is GREEN with envy.

We’ll be real old one day and having our afternoon cocktail…
ME: Remember that one week when you saw REM and THEN you saw Pearl Jam from that luxury box in MSG?
FG: ZOMG! Oh. Wait. Not really. Tell me about it.
freakgirl on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 9:10 am
And you WILL tell me. Over and over!
freakgirl on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 9:10 am
Oh, and we have tix to Eddie Izzard on Friday.
BEST WEEK EVER.

Gosh, I hate to poop in the punch, but I saw PJ on Sunday night and found it mediocre. It’s not they’re too old (they’re not) or that they didn’t rock it (they did), but I guess maybe I’ve grown into a fair weather fan in that I’m most interested in hearing the classics (or anything from Vedder’s Into the Wild soundtrack).
The arena also lacked video boards, which I’m sure contributed to the less than stellar experience. (I also have some concerns about Vedder’s political soapbox, but perhaps that’s a whole ‘nother interview.)
Anyway—I hope your experience turns out better than mine (it has to be given the luxury box!). Any idea who’s opening?

Does he just do stand-up or sing and dance about?
And I’ll totally tell you over and over. And….
ME: Is your husband gonna refresh our drinks or just stand over there waving that lightsaber all day?

I just peed my pants a little. Thank heavens for the adult diapers.
Megan, this punch tastes like poop. Seriously, though, that’s a bummer that you didn’t enjoy the show much. My sister saw them a week or so again and she was really pleased with the set list. Then again, she’s a superfan. As for Eddie’s politics, sometimes that sort of thing annoys me, sometimes it doesn’t. I think Vedder is generally a down-to-earth and cool guy, so he doesn’t really frustrate me (I’m looking at you, Bono).
Also, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists are opening. I’ve seen them before and they’re incredible. But I think their sound will be completely lost in a venue the size of MSG. We’ll see, I suppose.

I was at the Coldplay show there last night. Sometimes I forget how great the sound in that place is. Have fun!
Here are the set times if you’re interested:
7.30 – 8.10pm – Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
8.10 – 8.40pm – Intermission
8.40 – 11.00pm – Pearl Jam

Bianca, thanks for the info. If PJ ends on time, we’ll get the 11:30pm train home. Ugh, another late night. I’m too old for this shit.
Glad to hear the sound was good. The last time I was there for a show (granted, like ten years ago), it was awful. But I also had terrible, nosebleed seats that time.

I declared myself Too Old for Concerts at MSG years ago, but I’m coming out of retirement for this. See you tonight, FG & GB!
Susie on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 11:09 am
I almost forgot! FG, I’m bringing you a little surprise — do you have a favorite color?

So did we, which is why we skipped the REM MSG show. LOL. BFF. OMG.
WHAT ARE YOU BRINGING ME? Is it a puppy? I have LOTS of favorite colors! Green, brown, orange…me likey earth tones.
Oh — I have a couple things for you for the store. Nothing big and fancy, but I’ll bring ‘em.
Susie on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 11:24 am
Dammit. You figured it out. I’m bringing you a tiny green puppy.
freakgirl on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 11:27 am
Yay! Make sure it’s housebroken.
chuck on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 1:14 pm
TED LEO!!!
freakgirl on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 1:16 pm
I know, right?
chuck on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Jersey represent!
Megan on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 3:51 pm
FG: Ted Leo also opened for us too—very, very good.
Double true about the politics….and Vedder does seem like a cool, down-to-earth guy. You forgot one adjective though: hunk-of-burning-love.
freakgirl on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Heh. True again.
