One Week!

Thursday, August 02, 2007 at 09:28am

One week from today, we pack up the car and head to America Junior to visit our friends. Can’t wait! Sandra and Nicci, let me know if you want us to bring anything special!

On our way home, we intend to stop in the Finger Lakes region for an afternoon/night. I want to visit the Waterloo Outlets and also, natch, some wineries. If any readers know that area, what wineries or activities do you recommend? We are leaning towards Waterloo, and visiting Seneca and Cayuga Lakes.

When are you leaving? I am an expert on the wineries up there but am about to shoot out the door for four days.

We leave for Toronto on Thursday but won’t be going to Finger Lakes until about 8/13. So just email me when you get the chance; I will be checking email on vacation.

Ithaca (on Cayuga lake) is one of my favorite places to visit. It’s a beautiful little progressive college town (home to Cornell). If you go there, you should eat at Moosewood Restaurant (we have used their cookbooks for years, so it was a treat to go there), and walk around the downtown area. There’s also a place that makes really good wine-style hard cider just outside of town.

Not to sound snobby, but I’m not too much of a fan of the Finger Lake wineries in general. I did really enjoy Dr Frank’s on Keuka lake, though. I did not, however, enjoy Bully Hill (also on Keuka lake), which seemed to be more geared to the party crowd and chugging your booze as opposed to tasting.

FG (and GB), all I ask is to just bring your sweet asses over the border and into our hood safely.

HOMER: “I know we don’t call as often as we should and we aren’t as well behaved as our goodie two-shoes brother Canada. Who by the way has never had a girlfriend. I’m just saying.”

I went to college on Seneca Lake and highly recommend it for its beauty. Any of the wineries are fun to tour, really, though I must admit I did more bar-hoppin’ and shot-drinkin’ in college.

Ithaca is a pretty, pretty town and definitely has more to do than Geneva, where I went to school. Not to put down my college town, or anything, it just doesn’t have a lot going for it in the tourist-y department. Our lake, though? So pretty.

If you think you’ll be downtown bound let me know. I wanna meet the Freak, the Maggie, and all the rest.

Yay, smoke-free fun! We will sit around, drink and talk about when we used to smoke! And eat cupcakes!
