Once

Lisa and I saw the most amazing film last night. Once is a “modern-day musical set in the streets of Dublin.” It’s also one of the most touching little movies I’ve ever seen. This review gets the feeling right - “You’re at a movie, and a song, as if by magic, breaks through the surface of the drama. Suddenly, you’re no longer sitting and watching — you’re soaring.” Michael recommended this movie to me, and I’m so glad he did! Please go see this movie. More after the jump.

You can listen to Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová in Concert here. Or, just have a taste of the music by clicking here to listen to Falling Slowly.

And here’s the trailer:

That review snippet sounds corny, but is SO RIGHT ON. One of the best music movies ever made.

It IS corny, but it’s exactly how I felt. Yeah, I’m a sap.

Saw it a couple of weeks ago and was completely blown away. That first scene where they go into the piano store and she learns his song while they sing it together is just incredible. They were selling the soundtrack in the lobby of the theater and we bought it on the spot. Can’t recommend it enough.

Glen Hansard was the red haired dude in “The Commitments.” I thought he looked familiar.

And Chuck, calling it a “music movie” rather than a musical is right on. I love me some musicals, but “Once” was different.

You’ve made me curious. Did you get it through Netflix, or is on HBO now?

It’s playing at those old fashioned “movie theaters.”
