That brings back memories. I loved me some Jordan, and had all of the NKOTB trading cards. What’s so funny is seeing all of the girls lined up, most looking about my age (30), who were right in the teeny-bopper age when they were really popular.
I was too old for NKOTB when they hit, so I think it’s why I’m fascinated by the obsession of their fans. I want to like them for pop culture’s sake, but I just can’t! I must say, I really enjoyed Jordan’s complete douchebaggery on The Surreal Life. He was so over it all and kept stressing how much the New Kids were in his past. Bitch, please.
My sister was a Donnie fan and loved NKOTB. I, being two years older and way, way cooler, thought they were ridiculous. I found myself at a concert once, because a relative who was taking my cousin and sister to the show bought me a ticket so that I could keep her company and she’d have someone to smoke with. Ha! We spent most of our time in the vendor area smoking instead of in the stands, watching. Although we did sit down in time to catch a special performance of Jordan Knight, where he plucked some girl out of the audience and sang to her, with his unbuttoned white shirt flowing out behind him, blown romatically about BY THE WIND MACHINE THEY SET UP IN FRONT OF HIM.
My sister is going and is SO FUCKING EXCITED I can’t even tell you. Wayyyyyyyy back I took her to a NKOTB concert for a somewhat similar reason Maggie notes (minus the me being cool bit but I sat there and watched the whole damn thing. She was beside her little 8 year-old self the entire concert and she will likely be the same this time. That being said, she isn’t a crazy loser like those dudes.
I’m afraid to mock any of the people in those photos, as one will likely eventually surface of me, as I wait in line in my rocking chair for tickets to see Robbie Williams: 2028, or something.

Too old for NKOTB, but right in the wheelhouse for 90210?
Hmmmm…
freakgirl on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Oh shut up. 90210 and NKOTB were NOT marketed to the same audience!

Wow this does bring back memories. I am getting douche chills all over again.

Ha, Chuck!
“People with Big Mams.” Hey, I have big mams!
My sister was a Donnie fan and loved NKOTB. I, being two years older and way, way cooler, thought they were ridiculous. How do you live that down? Seriously?
Bianca on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 4:41 pm
NKOTB was my first concert. Sadly they were only OK on the Today Show I thought haha.
freakgirl on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 4:48 pm
Chuck, hee hee. I’m sure you have some skeletons in your closet, mister.
Maggie, I remember that wind machine and the white shirt — I think it was in a video or something, too. How cheesy. Chessey, even!
Bianca, they weren’t that great on Today, I agree. They’re a little too old to be jumping around like that.

Maggie, I made a mental note earlier to “start using MAMS.”

I liked NKOTB for a few days, but growing up with 2 older brothers meant that got beaten out of me pretty quick.

No skeletons - I came out of the womb cool. With a mullet.
freakgirl on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 7:04 pm
Oh, I’m sure I’ll remember something.
Maggie on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 7:09 pm
Freakgirl, when you line up for Robbie’s comeback tour in 2028, make sure you use your mams to best advantage.
MAMS. RIght? Best word ever.
freakgirl on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 8:18 pm
In 2028, my mams will be somewhere in the vicinity of my knees.
Maggie on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Sounds good!
