NJ Traffic

I’m rapidly developing a case of the Mondays. This morning I had to go to the doctor’s to get blood drawn. On the way there, I encountered a massive amount of traffic, which is odd since I don’t take any highways to go to the doctor’s office. From what I can figure out, police have closed Route 22 completely from King George to Chimney Rock Roads. They’ve simply blocked the exit/entrance ramps and are leaving people to figure it out on their own. On my back from the doctor’s (a trip from Bridgewater to Somerset that took me about an HOUR, for those of you playing along at home), I noticed that every single side street was packed with cars; confused commuters trying to figure out where to go. I tried to be slick, figuring I’d cut through town and try to get to my area by a more roundabout way, but I was denied! Eventually I just kept driving along, and suddenly found myself in Piscataway. From there it was easy to get home. I noticed on the way, though, that there were no cops anywhere, and when I drove over Route 22, it was a ghost town. What is going on? I can’t find anything on the news. Oh, and once I finally got home, I found a dead, bloody bird on the doorstep.

Oh, and confidential to the two old men in the red pickup truck? Just because things are confusing and traffic is heavy, it does not mean you can block the intersection. Heavy congestion does not automatically render traffic lights null and void. Dumbasses.

Uh oh. Must be going around then, the Mondays have attacked parts of Austin, too!

Man, I’m glad I missed that mess this morning. I took 22 to Warrenville Rd to 78, and didn’t have any problem. That was around 6:30. That sounds like one hell of a mess.

I haven’t seen a mess like that in a long time. And that’s saying something for Jersey. # All they said on the radio was that there was police activity. I can’t imagine an accident would cause that much highway to be closed. Let me know if you hear anything.

    From the Courier-News site:

Updated 10 a.m. BRIDGEWATER — Route 22 has reopened after being closed for two hours this morning. The highway was closed in both directions near Chimney Rock Road while police investigated a suspicious device. See Tuesday’s Courier News for more details.

    And, one more update:

Old mortar shell shuts down Route 22
Updated 12:30 p.m. BRIDGEWATER — An old mortar shell found propped nose down against a Route 22 telephone pole was the reason police shut down both directions of the highway Monday morning, police said.

An old mortar shell? How did anyone even notice that? Yeep.

Wonder if Kyle Chandler was there.

Ha! Ellen Pompeo, crouched on the shoulder of the road, her hand on the mortar shell…

And Christina Ricci hauling ass away from the bomb at top speed.

I am reminded of the time your road was closed because of a Blackhawk helicopter emergency landing. We’re not nearly as military in North Jersey.
