Mrs. O’Toole co-chairs a green group at her work, and they created a plan to donate the 200+ lbs of unused food (and inedible, to people – watermelon rinds, veggies gone off, etc) to a local herpatological society, and a while ago, we went to watch them feed the animals. They have lots of amazing animals, from big crocs to wallabies that live in the house, but this bucket was going to the desert tortoises. About a hundred (seriously, no exaggeration) tortoises came out of the ground, from holes under rocks and houses, climbed over each other, and munched on these scraps. It was amazing! they bite just like turtles, crunching, and happy as could be. It was great seeing that.
