Mistrial for Phil Spector
Somebody explain this to me. How could they not come up with a verdict for Phil Spector? Seriously. Another celebrity buys their way out of jail time. Gah.

He must have hypnotized the jury with his hair.

People stupid.
And I won’t go so far as to say they watch too much TV (blasphemy!), but they confuse it with actual reality. Which I guess kinda brings us back to “people stupid.”

From what I heard, only two jurors felt reasonable doubt, due to the suicide argument, which resulted in the mistrial. The prosecutor is intent on retrying…hopefully EVERYONE on the next jury will be on the same page.

Sigh.
Because whenever I feel suicidal, I do believe that the best way for me to kill myself is to pick up a total stranger at a bar, go back to his house, borrow his gun and then shoot myself in the face in his entryway.
Best lawyers money can buy, I guess.

Yes, the best lawyers, and then I guess people do not fucking understand that “beyond a reasonable doubt” is not the same as “beyond a doubt.”

Trials aren’t about truth. They’re about the best lawyer winning.

I thought it might be because they’re being asked to find him guilty of murder, which presupposes that he intended to kill her, versus manslaughter, which presupposes that he’s an idiot who likes to wave guns in people’s faces and that he didn’t really ever intend to kill anybody. Perhaps they should have made manslaughter an option; I think that would have gotten a conviction.
I could be totally wrong, though.
