Last night I saw Punch Drunk Love. I don’t know what to say. I lovedlovedloved Boogie Nights, and I thought Magnolia was a pretentious and self-absorbed piece of crap, albeit with some rare beautiful moments. I suppose Punch Drunk Love was a little of both. I just didn’t sympathize too much with Adam Sandler’s character; in fact, he scared the shit out of me. The “love story” scenes were very sweet, but the film had a bizarre violent and nasty edge to it that didn’t sit quite right with me. I don’t know. Have any of you guys seen it? Thoughts? Can anyone explain to me what the hell the opening scene was all about?
