Jeez, Just Buy a Scraper

Speaking of weather, can I make a public service announcement? Is it snowy where you are? Cold and icy, too? Do me a favor and go look at the hood and roof of your car. Is it covered in snow or ice? If it isn’t, thank you for not sucking. If it is, please take a moment and punch yourself in the face.

The other day as I drove down Route 287, my car was hit with a piece of ice that flew off the top of an 18-wheeler from the opposite side of the highway. This slab of ice flew at me, as big as my own car, and hit the roof with a crash. I nearly drove off the road in fright. My roof avoided major damage, but if my car had been just a few feet forward, my windshield would have been smashed in. I know the example of an 18-wheeler is extreme, but I’ve been hit by giant sheets of ice and snow from regular cars, too. Seriously, people, how hard is it to take an extra minute?

OMG, I’m glad you are ok! This happened to a friend of ours as well, and their windshield was totaled. Any closer and he would have been seriously injured. This is a major major peeve of mine too.

Amen. I’m pretty sure that here in PA, you can be cited for some offense if you cause someone else to crash or get hurt because of that. All because you’re too lazy to take the two seconds to do something about it…
Thank God you were okay, after your heart re-started!

Yeah, I believe there’s a law here in PA about letting chunks of ice fly off your car, that was passed within the last few years.
Glad to hear you’re okay, Geekboy.

I think there’s a law here, as well.

Hey El Gato, what gives? I was in the car, not the geekboy. #

I dropped an ice cube the other day, and it almost fell on my foot.

    It was pretty scary.

Apropos of scraping your car, it took me SEVENTY-FIVE MOTHER CRAPPING MINUTES to get my car out of the driveway because it was FROZEN TO THE PAVEMENT.

Get me the EFF out of Wisconsin.

holy crap, brigita. I would not be able to deal with that.

I am so glad that you are O.K. I could never understand people driving around w/o clearing the potential lethal weapons off of their cars. My kids used to joke that you could certainly tell who the people were who had a garage. It is no joke. A high percentage of people w/o a garage have NO inclination of how they can harm others with their laziness.

Also taking a moment to punch self in face as I just put a hoodie on because I am more than a bit chilly at 72 degrees and windy. Go ahead… hate me

Yikes indeed. Injured or not, that’s such a scary thing to have happen, especially since it’s preventable.

On the topic of ice cubes (GB, thank the almighty Jeebus you are alright)… my father (an ear/nose/throat specialist), once had someone call who was afraid the ice cube they swallowed a week prior, was still lodged in their throat.

    soosan…hehehe…i like your dad’s story.

i’m sitting at a brist 61 here in tejas and although i never get snow (thank god - i visit philly for that sh*t!!), i do wonder if there is a law around here for people who go mudding alot. although ices is alot more dangerous than rocks/mud chunks, nothing scares me more than the 18wheelers/big ass tejas trucks that stop off on the side of the road, grab some for the road and then spray the traffic behind them. HELLO!!! it’s freaking scary. clear skies, not a cloud in sight - WHAT IS THAT FLYING AT ME????? YIKES WHY IS IT SO LOUD??? I’VE BEEN SHOT!!! CALL 911!!

i’ve had like 6 windshield since i’ve been here (5 years) b/c every year i can’t get my freaking car inspected with cracks (and pass). last time, i was driving it away from the dealership, where i had just had the windshield replaced. pulled out on the feeder, drove less than 30 feet without getting a crack. drove RIGHT back and asked if it was warrantied and they laughed and said for another $225, they’d get me another one.

Oops, I got my wires crossed. Sorry. I’m glad to hear *you’re* okay, Freakgirl. Shouldn’t happen to anyone.

Wow, glad you’re okay! MA has a law that you can get a ticket for having snow on the top of your car, even if it doesn’t go flying off in front of an officer (because, really, how often does THAT happen?), but you still see it.
