NOW do you understand my rant about John Edwards pulling out of the campaign?????? I wish our country was mature enough to vote for people because of who they are and not what they are. But it's not. It's just not. There's a WHOLE LOTTA country between our two coasts... and clearly WAY too much West Virginia.

<em>Yes, I cultivate lots and lots of racist friendships!</em>

I'm sorry - I didn't mean to offend you - but that made me laugh out loud.

I see what you mean, now. I'm getting nervous about that as well. And as The Daily Show pointed out last night, McCain has now jumped onto the global warming bandwagon. Never have I felt more pandered to in my life. Fuck off, old man.

<i>They won’t vote for him because he’s black? And they’re your friends?</i>

Yes, I cultivate lots and lots of racist friendships!

Sorry, I might have posted out of turn. I don't think it's so much race as divisiveness amongst the liberals over the candidates. I've read polls that say people may sooner vote McCain than for the OTHER candidate.

Sorry, my comment was off topic.

What bothers me is the subtle glee that the Clinton camp seems to be taking in the fact that these states are too racist to vote black. Don't get me wrong -- Hilary's allowed to be happy that she's getting votes, and she's free to gloat about that. And I'm not implying that she herself is racist. But it feels wrong somehow. Like being happy that your co-worker had a heart attack, because it means you'll get promoted to their job. I know it's an impractical notion, but part of me wants her to be telling people, "Vote for me because I'm the better candidate, not because I'm white. And shame on you if you're only voting for me because I'm not black. It's the 21st century. Grow up, and stop being so close-minded!" But again, I know that's impractical.

I live in Massachusetts now, but I grew up in Alabama. Recently I went home and was talking to my mom about the election. She said Obama seemed nice but that she was worried he might have connections to terrorists. She is not a dumb person, but I was sort of embarrassed for her at the time. But she lives with my grandparents (due to illness) and they make sure the tv is either on baseball or Fox News, so I guess I can understand the ignorance of fact.

They did tell me that even though it's a dissapointment that I'm voting democrat, they would rather me be an Obama fan than a Hillary fan. The Clinton hate runs deep in the south.

It's not that the racism doesn't bother me - it does. But I guess I expected it. What infuriates me is the media's blanket treatment of it. The rednecks in WV are different from the rednecks elsewhere. But when you feed them a line on how they're supposed to vote...I don't like it.

<a HREF="http://ruralvotes.com/thefield/" rel="nofollow">"The results from 48 primaries (so far) have shown regional disparities between the Democrats: Obama wins more rural votes in the Deep South, Northern New England, most of the Midwest, Pacific Northwest, the Rocky Mountains and much of the arid Southwest. Clinton wins them mainly in Appalachia and some demographically similar places near it.

The mass media (finally getting the memo that there are many Rural Americas, each with their own distinct voting patterns) has tried to interpret those rural discrepancies between Clinton and Obama as being mainly about race. Truth be told, that’s part of it, but not all or even most of it."</A>

Joanne, that woman was in a restaurant. But yeah, let's hope someone like that doesn't vote at all.
