It’s Snowing!

Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at 01:04pm

It’s finally snowing here in Jersey. I know most of my peeps out in the Midwest and in Canada are buried in snow, but we’ve had just about none this year and I’m enjoying watching it fall. Of course, later it is set to turn to rain and ice and slush, so a big whatever to that. I’ll try and enjoy it while it lasts.

Maybe the geekboy will get to come home early. That’s the real reason I like snow, you see.

There’s not much to post about right now and, to be honest, I’m having somewhat of a bad day and don’t really feel like writing. I’m going to try and fix my mood with an hour of yoga (look for me to complain about that over the next few days) and then maybe sit down and watch Flavor of Love 3. I suppose I should be working but I just don’t have it in me right now.

We had snow the Saturday before last, but I blinked and missed it.

The snow sure is purty. And that sunny day after a big dumping of snow is the best… sparkly fluffy white snow on trees… I love it. I’m just glad I live in a high rise so that I don’t have to deal with the shoveling and what not.

What i wish I didn’t have to deal with was this stupid bronchitis! Ever had it before? I never had… and I don’t wish it upon anyone! It blows. I’ve never been this sick for this long. Started as a normal cold, moved on to a stomach bug, and now bronchitis. At least the cats are happy to have me home. #

It is mostly ice here in my Midwest area to which I slid off the road right into a ditch this morning. The six-year-old backseat driver was not amused by the adventure even though it involved a tow truck.

    Bring on spring baby!

I offered Ivon to move to a country where they still have all 4 seasons, instead of just fall like we have. But he doesn’t want to. Pfff.

We have gotten SO MUCH SNOW and it has been so cold that the city is now being forced to gather it from the sides of the road and melt it. We have PILES and PILES. Lots of ice. I haven’t seen this much snow fall here in a long time - it’s as if we’ve travelled back to when I was 8 and had to trudge through the snow as I walked to school. They are calling for YET ANOTHER snow dump of 15 - 20 cm here today. Marjon, I’m coming to live with you guys, as Fall is my favourite season. Jay can come if he wants to or not - at this point I just don’t care anymore. Freakgirl and the state of New York and the country of America, you are more than welcome to our snow.

    Sorry, my rant is over.

Soosan, you’re right - it is beautiful just after the snowfall, but I’m so ready to move on.

Yeah, we have had an obscene amount of snow this season, I hear that. If today’s storm interferes with my plans to to order swiss chalet delivery tonight… so help me jeebus.

    Hugh - nice one.

Kimberly - Scary! Glad you are okay.

Soosan - bronchitis sucks. I used to get it constantly and it’s no picnic. Knock wood, I haven’t had a big sickness like that in quite a while. And now that I’m almost a year smoke-free, I hope that things only keep improving. Woot woot!

Soosan, I used to get bronchitis every semester at college during exam week, since I’d get a cold, get run down and stressed, and not have time to go to a doctor. Then I’d end up sleeping propped up against my wall b/c it’s impossible to lay down. I hope you get better soon!

I took a sick day, and just worked on knitting a baby blanket. I’m using 2 balls of wool at the same time, and it’s easier than I thought it would be. It makes it nice and soft #

    Rona, we want a picture!

  12. Soosan on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at 3:59 pm

Thanks Rona! The worst of it is over I think… still hacking but it’s not so painful anymore. I hear Lenny Kravitz has bronchitis too. Such a follower.

    What colour is the blanket?

We just broke the all-time snowfall record here in Madison, WI ( 76+” ) and it’s only *February*. OMGI’msoeffingoverwinter.

We got like an inch and now it’s going to rain right on top it. Mother Nature has gone completely crazy.

I’ll be happy to take a picture when I’m done! So far, so good. It’ll be grey and pink. Right now it’s just grey, since I’m only about 30 rows in.
Does anyone else get annoyed with knitting on a circular needle? I hate the way it twists. My grandma made us some very large blankets in her day, and never used anything but standard needles. Granted, she had to squish it all on the needle, but I’m thinking I might try that the next time a pattern calls for the circular needles. I just hate how it twists.

  19. freakgirl on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 10:22 am

Circulars are easier on the hands, though, especially with something as big as a blanket. Do you mean the cable attached to the needles twists? If it’s that, straighten the cable by dipping it in or pouring very hot water over it before you start.

If it’s your work that’s twisting, there’s some info here as to why that happens.

I meant the cable that’s attached. I never thought of the water trick…I’ll have to try it!

Luckily it’s just a simple blanket, nothing complicated like a sweater or something that has to fit. Plus, by the time the baby can critique my work, I’ll be able to withhold her allowance #

Or you could use addi circulars or the knitpicks interchangeable needles! They have nice flexible cables.

I love me the knitpicks interchangeable ones. I have the harmony bamboo set.

I want those knitpicks interchangeables SO BAD.

Sandra, you don’t want to live here. With Fall I mean, the stormy, yucky Fall with loads and loads of rain, rain and rain. Ow and grey skies and nothingness.
