I’m Shaggy
Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 09:49amGetting a haircut and color today. Much needed! I’m thinking about asking her to cut it a lot shorter in back, but leave it longer in the front. Like a reverse mullet. Heh. We leave for Florida one week from today, for a whirlwind vacation that will have us spending half the week with the Geek-in-Laws, and the other half with FreakSis and family. We’re looking forward to some poolside fun in the sun. We’ll be celebrating Freakniece #1’s birthday — can you believe she just started the second grade? And has lost two teeth? I can’t take it.

I wish Jay and I could take a vacation somewhere. We had a week off at the cottage a few weeks ago but the weather wasn’t great, and while we love the cottage, it would be nice to travel somewhere. We haven’t been on a proper vacation since Cuba last year in April. But, with new windows and kitchen put into the house this year, the wallet is a little thin
I keep looking at online travel sites and sigh.

Vacays are so important, but so hard to do sometimes. One beautiful Sunday a few months ago we took the kids into the city to have lunch at Carmine’s and sat at the sidewalk seating, then walked over to Central Park and let Johnny play in a playground there for an hour while the baby slept, and I said afterward to my husband that people travel from all over the world come here and do this, and if we went to another city we’d be doing something similar, so we should enjoy the day like it was a vacation day.
That said, we finally got our shit together and are going away in early Sept. A few days in Williamsburg, VA to see my friend and then a few days in Virginia Beach. We didn’t want to fly with the kids since it’s such a huge hassle and (the baby at least) they’re too young to appreciate it.

Are you ever too young to appreciate a cobbler with a mullett and an ipod?
