Please send him good wishes from Portland, OR. Suddenly I can see the contributors to my crappy day for the non issues they truly are.
I am truly so very sorry.

This is really upsetting. Some people get more than their fair share of hard times. I wish him and his family the best.

Oh wow -- that is sooo sad. His heart must not be able to take much more pain. My heart goes out to him and his family.

John is part of a big and very strong and spiritual family, with lots of siblings. One of his brothers was in my graduating class, and in high school, I was great friends with his sister, who was two years younger. Many many moons ago, the Marshalls even took me in and let me sleep on their couch for a few nights when I was temporarily broke and homeless. Because that's the kind of people they are. So I'm sure John will get all the support he needs, both from his family and the community.

Oh, I don't need to be crying like this at my desk. That's heartbreaking. Her father sounds like he'll make it through this, though.

Susan, what amazes me is how similar to Greta that it seems Emily was, based on the description in the newspaper. The creativity, the compassion, the love of animals. That is all SO Greta at that same age. There was always some consolation in knowing that she clearly lived on through her daughter. Which makes this loss all the more tragic.

For the full obituary and funeral arrangements, you can visit the Garefino website at www.garefino.com.
