I also heard that his family learned about his death from hearing about it on the news. I hope that this is not true. Oh, and the Phelps family of "God Hates F-gs" fame has announced plans to picket his funeral because he played a gay person in "Brokeback", so that he is now, in their words, "burning in hell." I drove by the apartment where he was found just a little bit ago because I was only a few blocks away and all the news vans out there made it feel very creepy. I'm usually not one to put actors on a pedestal, particularly actors that are younger than me. But he was the Joker, and he was 1/6th of Bob Dylan, and he just seemed a friendly, down-to-earth guy not too enamored with all the hullabaloo that comes with celebrity. It's just tragic.
