It was common knowledge for years that Brad Renfro had a drug problem, so I don’t think anyone was really surprised, although that was very sad as well.
This is truly shocking. I wonder, if it really turns out that he died of an overdose, if it was accidental or intentional? I hate to think of him being that hopeless. If it was accidental, that’s just tragic. His poor little girl.

The papers here in Oz report that he was lying on a bed surrounded by pills, so it seems more likely to be suicide maybe. There doesn’t seem to be a note or anything though, so it’s only conjecture. So sad.

This is just a sucker punch to the gut. I’m usually not one to put actors on a pedestal, particularly actors that are younger than me. But he was the Joker, and he was 1/6th of Bob Dylan, and he just seemed a friendly, down-to-earth guy not too enamored with all the hullabaloo that comes with celebrity.
It’s just tragic.

I gotta say I’m pretty shocked about it. I drove by the apartment where he was found just a little bit ago because I was only a few blocks away and all the news vans out there made it feel very creepy. Such a waste - obvs didn’t know him or anything but I never would have expected him to be a pill popper. He seemed like a cool dude

There’s a report out there that he had pneumonia, so perhaps this will be a “mixing medications” tragedy rather than an illegal overdose tragedy.
I also heard that his family learned about his death from hearing about it on the news. I hope that this is not true.
Oh, and the Phelps family of “God Hates F-gs” fame has announced plans to picket his funeral because he played a gay person in “Brokeback”, so that he is now, in their words, “burning in hell.” What lovely people.
