Wednesday, May 07, 2008 at 08:13amThe Flight of the Conchords show at Town Hall totally rocked the party! Not even the bubblehead idiot girls sitting in front of us who talked and giggled throughout the entire show, pausing only to scream out, “JeRmaine, I LOVE YOU!” could ruin our fun. Although, if you’re reading this, bubblehead girls in the first row on the left side of the Town Hall theater? Learn some manners or, better, stay home next time.
Before the show, Lisa and I enjoyed a ridiculous meal at Virgil’s. After dinner, we walked over to the Sanrio store so I could, uh, pick up a few things. Although I ended up with a bag full of gifts for some of my favorite rugrats and nothing for me. At the show, though, I did pick up a “Redheads Not Warheads” tee-shirt.
The setlist was similar to the one Patrick posted, although in a different order. We also got “If You’re Into It,” which was fun. People continually yelled out requests, and the inevitable “Freebird” was shouted. Jemaine immediately launched into it - “IF I LEAVE HERE TOMORROW….” It was shouted out about five more times during the show, and each time he launched back in. It was really funny. I guess you had to be there.
One strange thing. Security at Town Hall was really tight. Like weirdly tight. If anyone even held up a camera or cellphone for a snap, a yellow-jacketed guard would run up shine a flashlight in their face or sometimes even just take them aside (and presumably yell at them). At one point, Bret noticed a girl pointing a camera in his direction, so he stood up to strike a sexy pose for her, which caused a whole bunch of people to pull out their cameras. As security went nuts, Jemaine gleefully pointed out every offender. So hilarious.
Also, who knew Bret was small enough that he can nap in his guitar case?

The camera police were utterly ridiculous, as were the shouts for JeRmaine. You are right though, the “Freebird” stuff was hilarious. I was stoked to hear “Angels” and “I’m Not Crying”, but I did miss not hearing “She’s So Hot…BOOM!” I regret not pulling out my camera at some point so security could come over menacingly and shine a flashlight in my face.
I did not see a merch table. Did I miss it? We were third row, orchestra, but all we saw were the people giving out free Village Voice t’s. Would’ve loved a DG20 shirt.

There was a merch table all the way on the left side of the theater when you first walked in.
I was sad not to hear BOOM! as well.

NO! I was so disappointed!
Every time I hear that song, I think of Jeremy yelling it in our living room.

Jemaine did Freebird here too— someone yelled it out when one of them mused, “Maybe we should just do covers all evening…”
I’m jealous you got “If You’re Into It”, though.

They said they hadn’t performed it in a year…

Oh, I will definitely need to hit the merch table. So excited.

Thanks for the report. I’m sickeningly into hearing about the show–what were the guys wearing? Did they sport facial hair?

Bret, yes. Jemaine, no. They were dressed in jeans and shirts…nothing memorable except they were both totally cute.

Perhaps because of this post, all last night, I found myself singing “Business Time” to my newborn son, changing the words accordingly. “It’s dinner, it’s dinner time!” and other variations for bath and changing time. We both seemed to enjoy it.
