This makes me very grateful to be able to afford/have access to eggs from a local farm I know and trust.

Indeed. I was just telling someone that I should be making the effort to get locally-produced eggs. They taste so much better anyway.

There are a lot of people around here who just raise chickens at home and give/sell eggs to friends and family. Plus this year we’re in a CSA that has duck eggs as part of the stuff we pick up. It is a lot more expensive, though (unless you have a friend who gives them away), so that’s why I’m not going to say “everyone should do this”. It just seems like this particular case is so related to industrial farming practices and people can avoid exposure if they get them from smaller producers.
