Earbud Help

I’m sitting here at the Toyota dealership, getting my car serviced in preparation for our trip to Canada next week. WOOT! I’ve got my cheap Sony earbuds in, listening to Stern, and I am realizing that they are SO EFFING UNCOMFORTABLE. Consider this a call for recommendations. I’d like a nice, small, comfortable and relatively cheap set of earbuds. Buds I can wear for a long time (like an airline flight) that won’t make my ears start to ACHE fifteen minutes in.

  1. My Etymotics are comfortable and sound brilliant. (The latter, unfortunately, explains the price tag.) Plus, they block errrything; ambient noise is rougly nil.

  2. I stopped using earbuds, because they hurt. Now I have some sennheiser thingies on my ear. Better.

  3. I’m the same as Marjon, can’t wear buds because of pain. I have a pair of clip over the ear ones, that seem to block out 99% of the bus in the morning #

    I like the jbuds: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000IG66VS

because they come with three sizes of in-ear bud squishy things. They’re pretty cheap and I think they work pretty well.

Sony sells earbuds in different sizes. Like these. Maybe the smaller size will help? I’ve been thinking about dropping down a size on my sony earbuds for the same reason you have.

  6. Oy, what to do? Too bad you can’t try them on and then return them if they don’t fit. I guess earbuds are like underwear in that respect.

    Ew.

  7. Bose makes some pretty nifty in-ear headphones, and they come with three different sizes of silicone tips to get your right fit. Also, they rest in the “outer bowels of your ear canal” for comfort.

They’re not cheap; $100, but they’re comfy and the sound is good. Incidentally, I put D’s through the wash last week and owe him a new pair. Who keeps headphones in their dress pants anyway?

Let us know what you end up with!

  8. Just get the Skull Candy ones from Target. They come with 2-3 sizes of rubber ends, so one is bound to fit in your ears. They’re comfortable, and they sound OK (hey, $20). I seem to go thru buds quickly for whatever reason (mostly carelessness), so I don’t feel bad for that price. I’m sure the audiophiles would probably cringe at these, but I like ‘em.

  9. Plus, skulls on ‘em!

Along with Michael , I like Skull Candy. I usually get ear pain from buds but SC ear buds are tolerable for me. I’ve had them on today for at least 2 hours straight and no discomfort.

  11. Michael, you are speaking my language. Skulls, Target and $20? Someone hold me.

  12. A double-approval!

i have the altec lansing earbuds…err…in ear earphones…

they’re kind of pricey, but i wear them all day every day at work and sometimes outside of work too, so comfort was my main priority. (hey, my boss was buying them for me! so price wasn’t!!)

anyways, i forget i have them in. they’re wonderful and i can’t hear anything i don’t want to…they’re great! my boyfriends an uber audio snob and even he wants to use them!
