I like that when you went to the door, the deer was GONE! Had he circeld around the side, waiting for you as you walked out the door? was an ambush in the works? the video feed went dead just then. what ever happened to the poor cameraperson?
Ugh. Seriously, I’m just about done with feeding the birds at this point. It wasn’t so bad when the deer would eat from the feeder at night, because then I could at least put a bag over it every night to keep them from getting at it. But now that they’re doing it in broad daylight all the time, there doesn’t seem to be any way to stop them. Unless I can find a shepherd’s hook that’s tall enough to keep the feeder out of their reach, but not so tall that I can’t reach it to refill it. Or unless somebody out there makes a squirrel-proof AND deer-proof feeder.
Now don’t get me wrong — I understand that the deer are hungry. And I don’t begrudge any hungry animal a meal. But the deer can pretty much eat in 60 seconds an amount of food that would keep the birds happy for an entire day. And that sucks, not only for the birds, but for us, who like to watch the birds eating.
Isn’t there such thing as an adjustible shepherd’s hook kind of like microphones that you can lower and raise? If not, you could invent one and become rich!

Plus, I leave vegetables out there for the deer and rodents. They prefer the birdseed!

Get a really tall hook and then use a stick to lift the feeder from it to bring it down.
