Saturday night was the Fishbone/English Beat show, part of the Spring Ska-ward tour and also the 30th anniversary of the English Beat. THIRTY! Of course, Dave Wakeling is the only original member in the English Beat at this point, and there are only two original members currently in Fishbone (including Angelo Moore, pictured above).
You Got Me Ranking Full Stop
Tomorrow, we are going to Irving Plaza for this! Can’t wait.
SeaWorld Trainer Killed by Killer Whale
My condolences to Dawn Brancheau’s family and friends. She didn’t deserve to die, doing her job. But I have to say it rankles me to read articles wondering if her death was “an accident.” Um, it is a KILLER WHALE. Held in captivity and made to do tricks in a tank that is way too small. A killer whale with a history of violence. Why do we act so shocked and surprised and vow to “ensure this doesn’t happen again?” Last weekend in Atlanta, there was a fricking ZEBRA running on the highway because it escaped from the circus.
I mean, really. Animals aren’t for us to dress up and force to do tricks. Duh, they’re for EATING.
I Met Max!
You guys, when I was in Atlanta, I got to have dinner with Max! He is as wonderful as everyone says he is, terribly handsome (we have matching dimples) and we share a love for deep fried pickles, a love that can never be torn asunder. Atlanta is awesome, y’all.
Our Vacation Food!
I know some of you are wondering how the Woodfire Grill was for dinner last weekend. It did not disappoint. Kevin Gillespie unfortunately wasn’t at the restaurant that night, due to having to make an appearance. But his sous chef and waitstaff were fantastic. We really enjoyed our meals. I started off with a cocktail, a Blackberry Bramble. It was gin-based with muddled blackberries. YUM. Next, a crab salad with beets, grilled avocado and some diced jalapeno. YES. After that, a beef strip loin with duxelle of roasted mushrooms, collard green, and farro risotto with a roasted mushroom glace. MORE. Our server paired the beef with a lovely deep, rich glass of red. On the side — roasted brussel sprouts with sweet herbs and a smoked onion vinaigrette. OH MAMA. Then, for dessert, Justin and I split cocoa nib doughnuts with passion fruit caramel, coconut ice cream and a cocoa nib streusel. CALL THE DOCTOR.
