My latest article is up over at How Stuff Works — How Sand Dunes Work.

So, today is Halloween. This year we have no party to dress up for, but we’re celebrating the season by seeing The Toxic Avenger tomorrow. If you’re dressing up this year, tell us about your costume! And if you’re not dressing up, tell us about your favorite (or least favorite) costume. Or your very first Halloween costume.
The first costume I can remember choosing myself and wearing to school was a Snoopy costume; I think to kindergarten. It was one of those costumes from a box — my grandmother usually made our costumes by hand, so it was very exciting to get one from a store. If I remember correctly, I ended up getting sick that day at school and was only able to trick-or-treat at our next-door neighbors.
I was browsing through some photos of Marjon & Ivon’s vacation (they are currently out west visiting the desert and the Grand Canyon and places like that). I ran across one that looked quite familiar. Enjoy a chuckle after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
A few weeks before she was nominated for Vice-President, [Sarah Palin] told a visiting journalist—Philip Gourevitch, of this magazine—that “we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs.” Perhaps there is some meaningful distinction between spreading the wealth and sharing it (“collectively,” no less), but finding it would require the analytic skills of Karl the Marxist.
Here’s an interview with Kevin Smith. And here’s a clip (language NSFW — as Randall Graves would say, “Obviously.”)
Although I find Elizabeth Dole’s campaign tactics to be abhorrent, it’s not without a small amount of pride that I inform you our friend Dave made it into her anti-Kay Hagan commercial. (Dave is the guy who married us.) It feels good to be among the feared. Now excuse me while I go eat a baby for dinner.

This song will probably end up being a huge hit, because NOBODY IS EVEN TRYING ANYMORE. Do you hear me? I am one thousand years old. Read the rest of this entry »
My running shoes are several years old and it’s time to find a new pair before I get injured. I’d like some recommendations for decently-priced sneakers with good support. I’m not a runner; I mostly do a jog/walk/sometimes-sprint combo when I exercise. Right now I’m wearing Sauconys, which I like because they’re American (read: non-sweatshop) made. But I’m open to all suggestions.
Another gem from The Daily Show. Read the rest of this entry »
You get dry-ice martinis and electric cakes.

Rumor has it a Melrose Place revamp is in the works. If that means Thomas Calabro and Jack Wagner are back in my living room, I could be okay with that.
Hey geekboy, let’s renew our vows!
I guess I just needed a little pep talk.
While Sarah Palin was making a speech the other day in Iowa, someone in the crowd shouted that Barack Obama “is a n****r!” Sarah appeared to hear it, stumbled and then completed her sentence which, unbelievably, was this:
And…and……lessons about, um, the virtues of freedom and independence while being generous and compassionate with others.
I can’t think of a more compelling reason to vote against this ticket. Video after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
MTV has launched a website that seems similar to Hulu…a big library of new and old music videos. My choice for one of the most quintessential “MTV in the eighties” videos after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
Over at Too Much Free Time, we’re discussing The Amazing Race, Mad Men, and more. Join in!
Love, love, love, love. I may hate people, but animals can always make your heart grow bigger, you know?
Did everyone have a good weekend? We managed to pack in a lot of fun. Read on to hear all about it (with photos!). Read the rest of this entry »
