Get Your Force On!
By the way, the geekboy reviews The Force Unleashed videogame over at gagglefrak.
Taralli
After my haircut, I stopped by this little gourmet market to pick up something nice for lunch. I totally pigged out on fresh mozzarella, tomato and pesto on focaccia. SO GOOD. Even better, I noticed that the market now sells hot red pepper taralles from a local place in Bloomfield. A friend of ours introduced us to these, which are basically Italian hard pretzels. More about them here. I picked up a bag, natch.
Slow Blogging Morning
I hate writing “slow blogging morning” as a title for a post…I remember writing, “I have nothing to blog about today” on Sept. 11, 2001. Ugh. ANYWAY. It IS a slow blogging morning. Everyone is worn out from politics and Wall Street talk, so what to discuss? Did you see that Heather Locklear got arrested over the weekend? I love her and it makes me sad when she’s in trouble.
What else…I’m getting a haircut today! Are you thrilled? I knew you’d be thrilled. Friday is my 40th birthday, if you can believe that. I certainly can’t. So the geekboy and I decided to celebrate with a beach weekend down in Point Pleasant. I’m really looking forward to it. As I was telling an old high school friend the other day, I sure don’t feel 40. Or I guess I don’t feel like what I always imagined 40 to be. My grandmother, who is in her 90s, used to tell me on her birthday, “I don’t feel this old. I still feel like a kid.” Yep, me too. Of course, yesterday I realized I’m growing a Zit Family down by my chin. Unfair. However, my cold is finally beginning to clear up, so I’ve got that going for me.
Also, the next person who tells me that “Forty is the new _____” gets a punch in the throat.
The Jokes Just Write Themselves
Tina Fey parodied Sarah Palin again this weekend on SNL, but did you notice that they didn’t even have to write any jokes?
Weekend Wrapup
Hope everyone had a nice weekend. We did! Saturday night we celebrated the geekboy’s birthday with the family. I made Maggie’s portobello pasta for dinner. It was a big hit, but I think next time I make it, I’ll add some crushed red pepper for heat. Lisa also suggested some thyme. But yum! The geek requested “something with banana and chocolate” for his birthday cake this year. I consulted my Whimsical Bakehouse recipe book and found a recipe for Banana Cake with French Custard Filling and Chocolate Glaze. Are you kidding me? Photos after the jump.
Happy Birthday, Geekboy!

It’s my darling husband’s birthday today. Last night we feasted on pasta and banana chocolate cake. I gave him this, and I don’t expect to see much of him for the next few weeks. Love you, sweetie!
