Arc Walkathon A Success

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who donated for the Arc Walkathon. We made several hundred dollars for Team Freakgirl. And — we had the only two international donations! You guys are the best. Thanks again for your help and generosity.

Geek Excitement Advisory System

I forgot to link to this the other day. The geekboy wrote a fun post about being a geek, and the challenge of staying constantly excited as new projects and trailers are announced every damn day.

New “How Stuff Works” Article

My latest article is up over at How Stuff Works — How Radiation Works. This one was really hard to write. Science was never my strong suit and this topic was extremely broad.

Summer of Produce

If any of you were wondering how it’s going with our farm share — pretty great! We’re managing to eat most of what we get each week, and sometimes Lisa or my parents take the extra. Right now we have a ton of zucchini and squash. I’m going to make zucchini muffins or something today, I think. I’ve enjoyed trying new things. Found out I really like bok choy. I’d also never eaten beets before. My dad told me to roast them, so I did, with a little bit of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. An hour in the oven at 400 — delicious! Along with roasted beets, dinner last night was sauteed chard and onion, with a bit of olive oil and lemon juice. Really good. We have a bunch of frying peppers this week, and we are thinking of grilling up some sausage and peppers when we visit with friends tomorrow afternoon.

Looking forward to the upcoming tomato harvest!

The Dark Knight

So last night we saw The Dark Knight. It was very good. It was. But it didn’t blow me away. I don’t know why. It felt a bit long to me…that’s a long time for so much darkness. Ledger’s Joker was remarkable and really added some bizarre notes of levity to an otherwise very heavy flick. At the risk of comparing apples and oranges, if I had to pick one superhero movie this summer, I’m picking Iron Man.

Thoughts? SPOILERS shall ABOUND in the comments.

At The Risk Of Being A Pain In The Ass

We’d like to hit at least $300 in donations for the Arc Walk on Saturday. We’re not that far from our goal! You can donate here – as always, list Team Freakgirl as the team you’d like to sponsor.

The Craft Lounge Party

Last night’s grand opening party went really well. The shop is INCREDIBLE, and Susie, Kathy and Jen have every reason to be proud. The decor is warm and inventive, and the products are high quality and lovely. There’s a crafting area in the back and a nice little lounge area for knitting and relaxing. I can’t wait to go back and do some shopping and see the place really set up. A couple photos after the jump, but you can see the entire set here.
