Bruce Springsteen
Last night I was fortunate enough to accompany Beth to Bruce Springsteen’s last rehearsal show before he kicks off his tour next week. He’s touring with The Seeger Sessions Band in support of the new album which features the music of Pete Seeger. I’ve never seen Bruce live before, so forgive me if I state any of the obvious in my observations.
The show was at 5:30pm (I know, right?) at the Asbury Park Convention Hall. It was my first trip down the Shore this year! Yay! Before the show, we stopped into the Wonderbar (an historical landmark for us Jerseyans) for a beer. It was packed with Springsteen fans, blasting Springsteen music – very relaxed. We took our seats at the convention center and the show kicked off about 6:00pm (Bruce actually apologized for being late. When has that ever happened to you?). Right before the show started, the people who were seated to my left finally arrived, and as the man who would end up sitting next to me went to climb over us to his seat, he tripped and fell backwards right on his ass. He also took down a girl across the aisle. Didn’t apologize to her, but noted to us as he clambered over our feet that he had twisted his knee and that’s why he fell. I believe the man was more likely drunk, and this hypothesis was supported when he immediately fell asleep upon being seated.
There were about 20 people on stage, with all manner of musical instruments. The show? WAS LOUD. Really loud. I’ve seen The Ramones and The Pixies, and never in my life would I think, “Wow, Bruce Springsteen is kind of loud.” I point this out only because my new friend on my left slept through pretty much the entire show. He woke only when it was quiet, in between songs, where he would half-heartedly clap and then fall back asleep. Could you imagine living a life where noise puts you to sleep and quiet wakes you up? Me neither. Also? His companion clapped through every song, and this woman had less rhythm than Kevin Federline. Beth even clapped extra-pointedly in order to try and lead this woman to the beat, but it was all for naught.
Take That Reunion
Take That have reunited and are claiming that Robbie will be joining them for several gigs. Really? Wow.
Everybody Poops
Is the toilet paper industry so competitive that companies are resorting to publishing useless “reports” about clogging the toilet? Seriously? And we are apparently dumb enough to believe that it’s just a happy coincidence that Scott has the best toilet paper AND they sponsored the study? Whatev. Advertising disguised as news. Ugh.

BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE, Again
The lovely Beth has just offered me a ticket to tomorrow’s Bruce Springsteen show in Asbury Park. Not only am I a true-blue Jersey girl who has never seen Bruce live, but I just realized that in twenty-odd years of knowing each other, Beth and I have never attended a concert together.
I can’t wait.
Mammogram
In Freakgirl Is Getting Old news, today I scheduled my very first mammogram. Sounds like a Fisher-Price toy – My Very First Mammogram. I’m not at the age yet where I need them regularly, but my doctor and I figure I should get my baseline done now. I have no idea what to expect…I hope it doesn’t hurt. So here’s your PSA for the day, ladies – early detection!
Tired
I’m tired. Again. Last night I only slept for about three hours before Snorey McAllergies woke me up with his rumblings. Poor boy. I moved to the other bedroom and slept for a few more hours. I long to sleep six hours in a row. I also long to have the energy to work out right when I wake up. I think it would be better for me. But when I wake up, I’m so groggy and my muscles ache and all I want is COFFEE and I need it NOW. So…yeah. I see the sun is peeking out today; perhaps a very brisk walk is in order. Last night was yoga and we did a lot of upper-body work. I’ve always known that my upper-body strength is about that of a week-old baby, but I didn’t realize how bad it was until we did tabletop. Ouch! But we perservered and hung in there. I WANT TO BE STRONG! OF WILL AND BODY!
I need to calm down. Work is slow this week, so I think I’ll just take it easy and chillllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.
The Internet Freedom Fight
Tomorrow the House Congress Committee is going to vote and likely turn control of the internet over to the telecommunications industry. NOT GOOD, people. The CEO of AT&T/SBC has even stated for the record that he wants to charge for use of “his pipes.” Find out more information here.
